Had crank in bike since build in 2009 and I think it is getting a bit tired now and it hasn't developed a rumble but is more noisey than I remember ! It could be something else but what can I check without having to strip anything at this point ?

Ah hi, had an lc crank last 10yrs once. I think you may be looking at a rebuild/replacement . sure some one told me years ago they are good for 30,000 35,000 miles . then you need to factor in the winter lay up with the damp/condensation getting round the bearings . Had a ypvs crank that had that trouble, ended up with replacement webs rods ect.

I think like you say the winter lay ups can be fatal for the bearings and it hasn't done many thousands of miles at all
What happened to your ypvs crank then ? What were your warning signs ? noise ? vibration ?

hi ,this was on my yamagamma engine . after a while of owner ship I thought the compression had dropped off so decided re bore time . stripped the cylinders and pistons off and noticed rust etching in the small end eye on the con rod and the rusting on the liners of the cylinders ,bugger. mind you the engine ran and sounded fine but after seeing this it was engine on the bench. have you tried for play in the l/h main bearing as in that it move's up and down a bit much. when I had a main fail on my LC the engine cut out at some lights .I restarted the bike no noise /vibration and got about .5 of a mile when it stopped again and was solid on the kick start, big lump in throat . if I remember right that crank was over 10 years old and was used 5 days a week to get to work. back in the day we know there were guys replacing cranks after one season's use .

Typical Yama owner's Worry: is the crank Dying? Yup it is... from the moment it was fitted
Unfortunately you will need to get at it to check. Cyls off in the least. Rod bearings are the BIG wear item. Quite Fragile actually Big main Ball bearings need to be really knackered before they fail.. But anything is possible ? Regardless, excess play in the rods requires the crank's removal.. Some Fun. Noises as indicators? Dunno. My engines make all sorts of frightening noises even when fully rebuilt fresh Most disconcerting TBH. Annoyingly My stoopid Shindaiwa lawn care 2 strokes sound smooth and quiet by comparison. Surprising differences. These are Very nicely engineered contraptions being fully bearinged with chrome bores but v thin injection cast cases without water cooling jackets. Should be much noisier than they are Life's little mysteries.

If it ain't making noises that frighten you and make you want to switch off straight away just keep riding it.
I had a mondeo that the flywheel was breaking up so took it round to a mechanic mates garage.
As I pulled in he comes running out shouting to switch it off quick
He was horrified when I just kept revving it with its death clank
The joy of a company car you don't give a sh1t about

Seems to be underneath the engine on the left side but not a rumble or a rattle or a clank , maybe like on a 4 stroke when the valves start going loose, but underneath and not a 4 stroke , ah f##k it LOL
