I was talking to the painter I use the other day. He knows of 3 bike painters who have packed in, in the last few months. I don't think it's the easiest way to make money, even at £600 per kit.

Shame that Mark did some good work for me. A lot of work goes into it I'm sure. His prices went from 350ish to 600+ in about 3 years or so. I think he moved from his shed to a garage over this period so his overheads probably went up a lot though. We need someone else to step up to the plate, but his quality will take some beating.
Sorry to see him give it up though.

Mark quoted me £600 for an lc respray last October. In the end i had him spray all new panels and a new tank from norbo for a grand which i thought was great value, plus his work is awesome. I went and collected it all just before xmas from his industrial unit in Derby. He's a real nice fella but he had lc panels and tanks everywhere !! He had a rsi problem with one of his arms and had a support on it so maybe that causes him problems ? Real shame for the lc world as he knows the bikes - think he used to race them- and has a love for them that shines through in his work. Tough act to follow😣

I think getting the paint done properly is one of the most traumatic parts of a build !

That's a shame he's packing up, mate has just had his blue stripe set re painted, and it is indeed flawless.

Andy2bikes wasn't taking on new work when I spoke to him a month ago he says he's only doing mates bikes , I've seen a few of his LC paint jobs and they were better than my Mark Cordwell for finish plus Mark has been known to mix up customers panels and has left blast media in oil tanks , nobody's perfect .

Sad to hear another painter is retiring. There's a chap near me who does amazing work but I only use him for lacquering, and not that often as he isn't cheap! I try to do everything like that myself nowadays.
