Is there supposed to be a gasket between the cylinder head and the thermostat housing, it doesn't show 1 in the parts lists but mentions 1 in the Haynes manual, I haven't used 1 during the rebuild but coolant weeps out from the joint, what do you guys use?

Gary, I have a stat in place and the rubber seal with it, the faces of the metal were smoothed off but coolant weeps out from the joint, I'll either use yamabond or hylomar - should do the trick.

av you tried to re face the housing??? yer threebond would work fine mate or clear silicon... must be warped damaged as ive never had a problem b4...let me know mate. gaz Gary, yes I refaced the housing on a sheet of glass usiung fine grinding paste, I suspect the problem may be due to the housing having been blasted and coated, the inside where the rubber gasket sits is a bit rough, anyway I Yamabonded it yesterday, shall leave it for a couple of days then peel off the excess around the outside and fill up the coolant again.

Yes leak cured by using yamabond ;D, apparently some gasket kits do have a gasket for the thermostat housing - mine didn't
