In Holland you don't need to test motor bikes wow, I thought all vehicles needed to pass a Keuring at some point, tho thinking back I know my brommer never needed any kind of test, but it was pretty new. FWIW In Aus there are no MOTs until its 5th birthday, then every year after that and so long as you keep it registered its a simple pink slip. If you let the registration lapse (or move interstate and want to rego there) then its blue slip time, which is a bigger test.

... and it passed! There's a little play in the fork legs so I guess I'll need to replace the bushes at some time in the not so distant future, but other than that the old girl was A-OK! Mines going through the ring tomorrow...

In South Australia there is no such thing as an annual check - no MOT system AT ALL. Bonkers. You should see some of the shit driving around. They do have road tax ("Rego"/Registration) which also includes third party insurance - I thought that bit was a neat idea. How would you feel about no annual check at all? Convenient if you want to gloss over minor issues, but you can see the downside!

My apologies D, I should have said NSW in my post above... each state is different here. in NSW we have CTP as well, it costs a fortune and as usual a lot of it for the other uninsured drivers out there, sigh, the actual registration cost is minimal compared.

Ah Jon, you may be right anyway, SA is f****ed, economically anyway. I keep being told "Adelaide is the biggest country town in Australia". Worst place in the world if you wanted to keep a secret, everyone knows everyone, 1 or 2 degrees of separation max. I didn't realise how segmented Australia was until a while after I got here. For you lads back in Dear Old Blighty, Australia isn't one country with "counties" in the form of States, it's a loose Federation, and each State is a bit like an EU country. Jon, I note that Most of the bike deals are either in Sydney or Melbourne, so your observation isn't practically far off the mark old chap.

How true, its really not at all joined up, and even if it was you would still need to blue slip and pay stamp duty (yes dear old friends from back in the UK, you pay stamp duty on the value of any used vehicle you buy when you register here*!) to re register your car when moving states.
* - again im saying 'here', I mean NSW... but could be all of Aus as its such a money earner.
