Needing a bit advice lads please, I've got tapered head bearings fitted and I've had the frame newly powder coated, trouble is the races are now buggered due to process that's been done. So I need to buy new bearings and races but how do I get out the old races as there's nothing to get a punch onto to knock em out? Thanks antos

The only way might be with a dremel and cut it in a couple of places With a lot of the taper bearings you get no lip showing so impossible to drift

One way you can do it is weld a blob on the race and then use a drift to knock it out,

Hi , its sounds a bit of a butcher but what I did on my lc was I bought some fine steel punches and hit them between the race and seat on the frame. once you get a gap you can lever them out . before you fit the new races file or dremmel some notches in the head stock to make the job easier for the next bloke lol.

Thanks ladsπ And Matt your spot on there's no lip whatsoever to get a purchase on, I don't want to weld anything on ( but would be ideal way to get it out) as itl melt the powder coat , I think trying to dremmel a cut through it might be my only option here . Thanks again guys.

I did exactly what steeley said. Just used a small chisel to make a gap then used a normal punch to drive the seat out. Worth putting a couple of notches in the frame for the future.

No help to you, but agree no lip at all on the ones in mine which was why I painted rather than powder coated the frame.

Well I got them out by cutting virtually right through with the dremmel, (used a grinding wheel) then bust through with a chisel π

I've got the same issue with my frame and swinger I collected yesterday from the paint sprayers I kinda knew a dremmel would be called into use somewhere. Sounds like a plan to get the buggers out !
