I haven't used my 250LC since 2000 as my wife is anti bikes and nagged me into selling my ZZR 600.
Anyway I had misplaced the keys, logbook etc as i have moved 5 times since and never sorned it off the road as it's been buried at the back of various garages since.
I recently found the log book and old mot. What is the best way to get the bike back on the road without incurring massive penalties from our friends at the DVLA.
The log book is the old style V5

I bought a 250lc recently which had no paperwork at all. So I applied for the logbook from the DVLA and hoped for the best. To my surprise I received the logbook about 4 weeks later in my name. Now, bearing this bike is a total basket case, and after applying for the complete history of it I found out that it had not been taxed since 2000. So I don't think that you will have any trouble as long as you are honest. The fact that you have moved a few times, this will be in your favor. The first thing I would do, is contact the DVLA via email and ask their advice. That's what I did and got the result I wanted. There is plenty of info. on the DVLA website so have a look on there first. Good luck. Best regards, Aid.

Get the LC back on the road and bury the wife in the back of the garage instead!

Mate if I bury the wife at the back of the garage I will get nagged every time I park the bike up!
I have to dig a big hole for a soakaway to keep my building inspector happy, maybe dig a bit deeper for the wife or relay a nice new patio!

You could say that you sold it years ago and have just bought it back without any papers.

Problem you will have is you need the reg number and v5 ref number to sorn and the old doc probably doesn't have a corresponding number
I've been warned twice and not fined
I'd fill in a form as if you don't have a doc and get a new v5 then declare sorn immediately
If the try and fine you either say you sold it in 2000 and just bought it back with no papers or just play dumb
Might get a slap on the wrist.
Don't think it's the classic left in a garage they are looking for but the chances that don't declare or tax and use it anyway

That the answer I think.
I couldn't sorn as I never received the new style V5 logbook and carnt sorn it without the V5C!
Wouldn't have to play dumb it comes naturally after 50 years of practice. Lol

Don't mind paying the fine but couldn't afford 17 years back road tax as well.

Mine had been of the road since 88 so it was of the road before the sorn started so no fines was advised this by dvla
The previous owner applied for a new log before selling to me he didn't get fined either

I bought my lc in 2008 and forgot to sorn it until about 6 months ago. I just sorned it and said nothing and up to now have not heard anything yet so fingers crossed I have got away with it. My v5 was an up to date one though.

SORN only came out in 2001, so if tax expired before that date, it doesn't matter - get new logbook and SORN it straight away.

I declared a sorn on my F2 back in 2012 and its not been on the road since as i am hybridizing it. I was bored so i went to check my sorn was still ok,to my horror the DVLA website said that it was not taxed,no sorn. I have just sorned it now but it states i may be contacted by DVLA. I have just read on various websites concerning a sorn that i do not have to declare every year which came in in 2013 I have not recieved any reminders or letters in the last 5 years ,should i be worried about this?
