Brought the 350 lc for a shake down run this evening .. Starts first kick , idles beautifully.. Bogs down completely at 5k.. Standard motor, expansions, standard air box, timing good , 00 carbs with 220. Surley it couldn"t be running that rich that it bogs down. Could this be electrical.? Any help would be great .. Thanks..

Yeah for sure I see the 160 mj I thought I saw somewhere that these were modded to 190. So I thought with the pipes I Have that 220 would be a safe starting point and at least run.!!
What do you think .? Tks..

Have the carbs been modded, you'll notice some araldite slapped over one of the drillings on the airbox side, hit and miss though as I have a set that haven't been, but my mates have on his bike.

My YPVS done something similar to this when it had blocked emulsion tubes after a winter lay up once. Might be worth a check with modern fuels.

If jets don't solve it, test stator.

jetting is all wrong
Mains want to be 160/170 - go 170 with spannies, check that the mod has been done
Also, as mentioned, check the needle jet, and the stator could also be a culpritt, although sounds like jetting on the face of it

As previously noted on the forum.. Starts first kick (when cold) is not an indication of a good set up..
My YPVS will needs choke and a gently 10 kicks when it is cold.. Runs spot on after that..

Neither is that :-) Mine starts first kick and runs perfectly from that moment on. Weird as 220's are oem jettings from 101 carbs onwards... or were the 'first' model 00 carbs that much different?

yeah, the original 4L0-00 where 140 mains, then the mod came out and the mains went to 160 or 170 for continous fast riding (Yamaha's words not mine!)
Pilots also went to either 25 or 27.5, I've found 27.5 seems to be the one that works best

This is one time I don"t think i want original.. I took the carbs off this evening and low and behold they"re the ones without the Araldite.. Do i go ahead and fit the 170 mj.? Do you think this set up will work.? Maybe i don"t have a choice at this stage.!!

sounds like they haven't been modified, in which case the MJ was a 140 originally ! - but I would get them checked and modded etc if they haven't been done, PM me if you want this service doing as I do loads of carb services for people on here

Rebuilding my RD350LC 1982 and it bogged completely at around 5K. The carbs have 31W 00 stamped on the side and have a 22.5 pilot and 240 main. Am I right in thinking the best thing to do now is change them for 27.5 pilot and 160 or 170 main

No, 31w carbs are a powervalve Carb, and not the earlier LC versions, and as such the main jet is 240 as standard, don't put a 160 in, you will be running severely weak (if it runs at all)

If its all the correct jetting then it should run fine? I have striped and cleaned everything so i'll give it another go when its all back together. Thanks

if they are 31w carbs on an LC you need to blank off the vacuum take off on the RHS carb otherwise it will be a barsteward to start (if at all) and will either stop once started on the RHS, or put a big f*ck off hole in your piston !

Yeah I've done that. Just in the process of adjusting all the cables then I'll try it. Thanks for the reminder though.
