I have a set of Microns with the detachable cans. Where the down pipes mount to the micron flanges it is a push fit arrangement
what is the best way to seal the joint?

Hows' about Nothing at all? I initially tried Muffler sealant. Didn't work..it fell out. I then tried Permatex Hi Temp Orange Silly-cone goo. Failed within a few days, turned to orange drippy goo and dripped out.. Lovely. Thinking I bungled it somehow I tried again. Letting it Cure for almost a week. Same thing, it soon turned to jello and largely dripped out..grrr. What None of the Brochure Babbles mention is that Silly -cone dissolves in the presence of Gasoline. What do our engines spit out? Oil and unburned fuel. Been Running NO sealant at all for sevceral years now, albeit with the pipes V carefully fitted to centralise them in the sliding tube flanges. (required Newly fabricated Hanger mounts relocated) No appreciable leakages.. a quick wipe with a rag after a ride is all it takes.

The flue sealant works and is designed for high temps.

Is it just me that finds it somewhat ironic that some one with the user name allspeeds is using microns ? +1 on the flue sealer though I had both allspeeds and microns back in the day, still have allspeed on a 125 now i always thought allspeeds looked better but microns had the edge for the sound and performance .Nowdays you gotta buy what comes along if you want an 80,s throwback.

The flue sealant works and is designed for high temps. Certainly is :-) It's also a cementitious product (at least the stuff I used) and it's brittle and subject to vibrations.. which soon crumbled it into sand. Also being rigid/cement it locked the Pipes into the flanges.. Less than clever.. being completely against their designed purpose. Have you found a high temp Flexible sealant goo.. that isn't dissolved by Gasoline then??

I have allspeeds and having the same issue , fitted all the gaskets and sealant and both both blow , really starting to do my head in

Hylomar is fuel resistant and temp resistant to 300c
same as Wurth DP300

Thank you will look into those. Still have doubts re Silly-cone actually being fuel resistant. But it seems well worth keeping in mind

Hylomar is not a silicone, it is a polymer
It is actually aircraft engine sealant made for Rolls Royce, the Wurth DP300 is made under licence from Hylomar
Hylomar will not harden, not even in the tube, and will stay permanently flexible
It's UK made in Wigan and has different grades including Aero approved
Just google it

I asked my mate who was ex Yam club race mechanic the same question a while back - he said use instant gasket, which I thought was a bit weird. However, I did, and it has worked so far. Prob depends on clearances/gaps in question. J

I also use pluma flue high temp sealant.Lasts about 1,000 miles then starts weeping a little.But by then I don't mind redoing them as I like to take the opportunity to have a good look the exhaust ports and check the bores,Pistons,rings and power valve setting. Baz

As Small aside: the intent of Flanges and Springs on Chambers is (was?) to Move under pressure. Ever had a TZ? Then one could watch the pipes slide in and out with rpms.. as they were designed to. Possibly street use imposters are for bling?

If the pipes moved under pressure it would be the opposite of what you would want, as when the revs rise, the pressure would rise and the tuned length of the pipe would get longer, therefore making its resonant frequency lower, instead of higher........ ??
