A bike that starts first kick is no indication of an engines general state of health, Just want to put that out there.

Totally agree
Knackered bearings or a partial seizure won't stop it starting.

And another thing, a bike that "Doesn't even need coke to start" is simply an indication that It could be set up better.

I know that it's not kind to pick on typing mistakes, but Begbie, I got to say that I'm very glad that I've never had a bike that needed a line of Coke before it would start. Who needs a yuppie yamaha?

I was about to edit the post to add missing h but I quite like the idea of a two stroke being so temperamental it wants a carbonated beverage before springing in to life :-)

... mine never starts first kick... as I usualy give it half a dozen kicks or so, with wide open throttle and the igniton off, to ensure a good charge of petrol/oil mixture has gone through the engine beofre I attmept to fire it up.

Audience is pulling one choke knob up on the PWKs for getting folks nodding when it goes 1st or 2nd LOL

I'm a bit worried now. Mine starts 1st kick 90% of the time.

I know! mine too.....and tell me why do I think that "a half a dozen kicks or so, with wide open throttle and the igniton off" means that his is probably faster.

Every two stroke I have owned has a different "feel" What I mean is, that not one has been the same in the fire up regime. Even though I have owned 3 air cooled same model 250s, every single one has been totally different. Hard to explain it to a press button and go merchant, but you soon learn each bikes idiosyncracies.

Ha.. Nothing compared to the audience I used to get when trying to kick start my old 900SS Ducati. The amount of 'helpful' suggestions increased with every kick..!!
should've just let them try...!

I usually found myself surrounded by experts when trying to start my cr480 or ktm 500 strokers back in the day I never had any takers when they were offered a go at it .....

How many kicks is dependant on how many people are watching..... Fuggin 2ts.. Mine hates an audience. That's so funny I actually worry when I'm trying to start either of mine in front of people How many times have people said "can you fire her up so I can hear it?" when I've been out and about? Just to add to the pressure factor
I agree with the others, all my bikes (and classic VW's) have their little individual idiosyncrasies. All part of classic bike (car) ownership and I wouldn't want it any other way
