Just went through this on my 84 RZ (YVPS) I ordered a set of FZR 1000 frictions, tossed the rubbers and installed a set of EBC heavy duty springs. If the bike has any miles on it at all check and or replace the steels as well (mine were warped). I tried Barnett springs and the pull was carpal tunnel surgery waiting to happen. The EBC springs work perfectly and no slip or drag with Toomey Chambers Spec II stage I port and head shaved .030 with VM 30s...

If you reused your old springs even with new plates thats where you went wrong. On the advice of an Aussie forumer I measured a big box of plates and springs I have here from an ex-racer. All the springs were out of spec, but almost all the plates were fine.
With your motor you shouldnt even need any HD springs or plates really, new OEM ones are cheap too.
If you do fit HD springs, just fit 3 and 3 new OEMs, that lightens up the pull a bit.

Yes use 3 x heavy duty and 3 original springs and just stagger them round the clutch
Part number I got for FZR friction plates is
4H7-16321-02

I had mine from Norbo several years a go and although Norbo's not being genuine , mine have lasted since 2009 on a 68bhp tuned YPVS
(The above number is for genuine)

You can change oil to ATF fluid to help stop slipping. There is also GL4 gearbox oil, which helps with neutral issues, but not sure it makes slipping better or worse.

I use the gl4 gearbox oil with standard clutch and 3 tz springs the engine is about 70 hp no slipping. The clutch action was horrible and when i changed the position of the handle bars i bought a second hand original R6 cable. This had an effect of making it smoother and it felt a little lighter as well

Hi , make sure the springs are in spec, as long as the frictions are ok also take 2 steel plates out and put 2 aircooled rd steel plates in . It sort of packs the clutch stack out a bit instead of big springs or washers under the springs.

OR.. add Another oem thin steel 350 plate to the stack... at the bottom of the basket. Ali face to Friction is a poor setup and the extra plate also thickens the stack usably.
