Talk about them growing up to fast . This is my daughters first house. she is very happy right now . wate until the bills start rolling in that will wipe the smile of here face LOL . any way for now she is over the moon . The House is a right piece of crap dont get me wrong .it needs everything doing to it kitchen bathroom roof all walls wiring and plumbing . At best she will be lucky if she i s in before next years Christmas. Ive been down and removed the old kitchin done the gardens and removed the carpets now she just needs to get her builder to take a look at all the jobs to be done. Im happy for here but there is so much work to be done on it but thats what you get for what she could afford

A big commitment to make but owning your own place has huge benefits, not least the security it gives you. Well done to her

she went down the council yesterday and they wanted £50 for the 2 bins as well . im sure they used to be free but not not now apparently. she has them coming out to look at the house as its got no water no kitchen no bathroom and all walls need plastering . so she can hopefully get a reduction in council tax. They have all ready told her no water kitchen or bathroom will get a reduction only stuff like walls needing plasetring will or replacement roof . so we have to go down this week and knock the crap out the walls so they look without a doubt that they need doing it will save here more money then it will to get them re done any way and half of them need doing any way .

Steve In Leeds it used to be twelve months free and then 50% as long as it was uninhabited, but with all the cuts to central funding from the Tories all properties are charged the full amount from day one whether empty or not. The only way to get any discount is to say that one person is living there and you then get 25% off. Replacement wheely bins are £30 each and we have three - household waste for landfill, a green recycling bin and a brown garden waste bin.

To be fair the food waste bin is small.
Good on her Norbo, had the same thoughts on the garage. I'll give it a month before you've moved a bike in

Should also say, we all have a 6th recycling bin.
It's for old kilts we don't want any more. They gather them all up and send them to norbo

As long as you don't have a toilet in you can be exempt from council tax whilst it's uninhabited. But as soon as you connect it up you will have to start paying. Maybe at a discounted rate? Needless to say I pissed in an old tin bucket for a few months until I was ready to move in !

May be a few years ago before the cut backs but not any more . we had a bloke from the councel out and all she gets is a 25% discount it has no toilets no kitchen or bather room or even running water to the propriety No gas is working ether and half the walls now have no plaster on them it almost just a shell

If a property is left empty for 2 years the council can now charge up to double the normal council tax rates....

depends on the council they all have there own rools . this one says %25 off for 1 year then full price whether you in it or not and at this stage its looking like not as it needs so much doing to it

If a property is left empty for 2 years the council can now charge up to double the normal council tax rates.... How can they charge double if no one is living there? I was considering buying another place as an investment and just leaving it empty, I'll have to look into it now.

I think it is due to housing shortages. May be cheaper to put a guardian in. No tenants rights but they can pay the council tax

Your daughter must be well proud to get on the property ladder and also having a wealthy dad to help her out .. someone nicked my wheely bin last year and the council replaced it FOC.. That's out of order having to pay £50.00 and also the council tax demands, robbing B******ds they are' it's so unfair.
