I don't know anything about these engines, what would be the advantages of this engine over a 4LO motor? Is it good value for money? what questions would i need to ask about it and its suitability for my 4LO? Thanks guys

I thought I'd read on here, it wasn't that much better than a well set up YPVS engine, a set of correct flange pipes are close to £1K for a start.

Nonsense! Banshee Trans box ratios, while not identical are damned close (for real world use the Same) Find a listing for the box ratios Both Banshee and Yvps then compare. This was done years ago. Right there in black and white.. No internet Wisdom required Significant differences are in the drive sprockets.... Dohhh. Banshee is the more evolved LC / non Power valve motor. Better cyls, portings and crankshaft. Much more power to start with and Much easier to tune than an LC lump. Ideal IF a devotee of the LC type power curve. Also massive go faster parts availability for Banshees.

Bare I am in a position then of either getting my standard 4LO engine rebuilt and then tuned, or looking at one of these r.ebay.com/cHzUomYou say much more tuneable and more powerful ? by how much? I have to get a decent set of pipes made for the Lc so are they that much harder? I don't want to go down the ypvs motor had several and a hybrid want the Lc motor style and power delivery.

Asked seller some questions his response 'Hi the engine was stripped and checked and rebuilt by myself which I have had many years experience on 2 stroke engine whitish I have worked in British championships and Grand Prix crank was not rebuilt but had it checked and all in good tolerance don't no how many miles it had done seeing as it came out of a bashee quad bike I got it for a project Whitchurch I'm no longer doing and it has bar mounts . Hope this has helped'

Couple of things to bear in mind - Banshee engine doesn't run an oil pump so you would have to go premix, or fit the clutch cover and pump from a 350LC or YPVS. No provision for a tacho drive either so you would need to go electronic. Not sure if the Banshee stator has charging coils? So may have to fit LC or YPVS stator for a road bike. As already mentioned the pipes are spring mounted so normal pipes will need modifying or custom made.

Thanks all. Do the performance gains make it worthwhile or am i better to just get a decent road tune on my 4LO?

Search for "more power options 4l0 " and you will find some interesting and helpful discussion...I'm in the same boat.. I think I have decided to freshen up my 4l0 motor and add the goodies mentioned in the thread..If I feel I need more I'll build a yvps from parts. Of course that is today's decision...That way you can take your time and gather all the info you need before you start spending. Loads of help and advice on this site. Paul

I was intrigued by Bares reply so asked Google for some answers.
Banshee Transmission Ratios:
1st gear ratio: 32/13, 2.461 2nd gear ratio: 29/16, 1.812 3rd gear ratio: 27/18, 1.500 4th gear ratio: 25/20, 1.250 5th gear ratio: 23/22, 1.045 6th gear ratio: 21/24, 0.875
LC (4L0/1) Ratios
1st gear ratio: 26/14, 2.571 2nd gear ratio: 32/18, 1.778 3rd gear ratio: 29/22, 1.318 4th gear ratio: 26/24, 1.083 5th gear ratio: 25/26, 0.962 6th gear ratio: 24/21, 0.889
I have no idea if those figures are markedly different or "damned close (for real world use the Same)".
The only info Google linked to for bhp figures were comments on US banshee forums which stated, and I quote "34-36 HP, with a top speed of about 73-75mph".
OEB
EDIT: And as for having a "better crankshaft" it is exactly the same parts as a 350YPVS.

If ur not worried about keeping matching numbers on yer bike then go for it , as you,ll find theres so much more tuning parts available for the banshee motors , mild or wild , depending on the depth of your pockets .... ..

You could always fit YPVS barrels etc to the Banshee motor, might work out cheaper considering what you might have to cough up for a bespoke set of pipes etc.

Hey we all started 'somewhere' similar. A simple google for Banshee should fill a couple or more evenings with reading. LC engine bless it's geriatric heart was Long ago obsoleted. Store it in a box for posterity. Of interest Only to Anoraks firmly fixated on resale profits. Think of a banshee as it's Grandson. An Evolved /developed LC (non PV Engine) Newer and better in.. everything.. about it. One can buy virtually anything aftermarket for a 'Banshee', right down to Billet Crankcases/Engines. It's the Ypvs engines that are the forgotten stepchildren... typically claiming Banshee bits as Go Faster Valvie parts. Don't think for a moment that all those Monster Bore engine bits were built /designed for Valvies. Banshee's are a MUCH bigger market than RZ's Ever were Yess the stators are different. No big deal as RZ even lc ones bolt directly on. Banshee side cases are Valvie ones (same part #) Adding an oil pump is as simple as bolting one on. Not 100% sure but like later Valvie cases the Tach drive may only be plastic plugged off. Yess Ex spigots are Different (better imo) But there Is required fettling needed to fit old Bike ones to them.. Again No Big Deal.. we Are fearless Bike builders after all :-)

If you prefer the delivery of an lc but want more per simply use a ypvs motor but lock the power valves in a position that gives the performance you like
Solves the exhaust issue and the fact a standard banshee isn't that powerful
I'm sure mikee runs his mito like that but be warned a ypvs with open valves is loud

Look in Here: www.bansheehq.com/ What we do 'here' with Valvies is Children's play by comparison. One can even buy 4 cyl Billet crankcases/cylinders.. IF one has serious coin to spend/waste.

Just to fuel the debate.
This morning i was tidying my parts up and remembered . Ages ago i bought some banshee big bore bits and there was some gear box parts with it. I thought nothing of it until i read this thread. I put an YPVS output shaft next to the banshee shaft output shaft and you could see slight difference in gear wheel radius but some gear wheels are physicaly wider which surprised me. Maybe due to the extra width of some gear wheels it might be better to use this for a big bore engine.
