When you get your cases back from vapour blasting give them a good was down with a hose pipe. You will be surprised how much of the blasting media is still hidden away in nooks and oilways etc!

Just for reference I paid £60 for upper and lower cases.
I thought this was a little steep compared to other prices, however it was local, so you have to factor in postage charges (and possible damage in post!)

I pay £50 for crank cases. Put bolts in all threadways first to help keep media out. Still rinse really well afterwards though.

so sounds like they could do with a good ultrasonic clean afterwards then?

You would need a fair size ultrasonic cleaner but if you have one then you may as well use it. Thoroughly washing with water would be ok though.

Paid £40 for a company in the Midlands to it. Blanked all bolt holes first, then put in dishwasher with no detergent.

I am fortunate to have a big ultrasonic cleaner so that should be no problem its just the worry about how aggressive it is on gasket faces ect.

Vapour blasting and a good rinse is all you need to do. They do come out really well ..

Mark, my pv cases also came up well. Would be a sin in my opinion to paint the top half.
If you were going for a nut and bolt resto, and wanted to paint the top half, then the bottom wouldn't look original anyway, as after they are vapour blasted the finish is literally better looking than original.
