Hi,
I'm just about to pull the pin and order some shiny new exhausts from Gibsons Exhaust so that they will be ready to pick up when I am back in the UK over Xmas visiting friends and family, Tony from Gibson kindly sent me some pics of the large and small cans on a 4LO so I could compare the two types, I think I prefer the large cans not just for looks but also the rear wheel of the small can picture was splattered in oil from the exhaust however, Tony did mention that he sells more small cans and that were more popular back in the day.
This may have been done before but what do you guys think? Should I go for the more traditional small cans or go large I'm in two minds so any help with looks / performance ect ect would be as always greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Paul

Recently got a pair of the Jim lomas big can for my 80's rebuild tribute , reason far prefer the look. I didn't get gibsons because they are £200 more for chromed steel rather than stainless. It all comes down to personal preference. Don't believe there is any discernible difference in performance.

I'd say you have to make up your mind between pure looks, or sound and practicality.
I must admit the look of the small cans really suit the bike. Maybe it's a little bit of nostalgia, as they always used to be like that (in my distant memory).
However I actually prefer the deeper muffled tone of the large cans (as do the old bill I would expect).
So IMO if you polish it more than you ride it go for small cans, and if you prefer riding it the large cans.

Hi I've had both - large can in 316 stainless; And small can in chrome; Gotta say small cans are my favourite - just look so right on an Lc in my opinion, and sound great too Your choice, I'm sure you'll be happy either way. Dusty

Loving the blue one dusty. Large ones do it for me though, but I didn't get my first lc till 1986 so I'm not as old as some of those saying small cans

What cost? and timescale did they give you? Have them chromed and its circa £500, waiting time they will say 12 weeks, but bank on longer, think mine was about 20 weeks

As there are no police left on Britain's streets, you'll be fine with small cans then Dusty

Oops, double post, sorry ! Other thing to mention regards the oil on the back wheel. I got that with the large cans as well as the small, plus the Tsa pipes on my previous build, and they were longer than large can Allspeeds, so oil spatter can be an issue with any pipe you buy. Dusty

Ideally I would like a pair of Microns but nice ones are getting rare so these are probably the closest I can get as I'm not really after a performance boost Ummm.. Why not TSA pipes??
