Im currently looking at my foot rest hangers for both my LC and my F1 (yeah lots of work with two sets!) and was going to polish and powdercoat them, but im wondering if the ends where the actual footrests attack should be blasted or polished? I doubt this is the exact original finish of course but im trying to get close with older parts so any help and thoughts greatly received.

As far as I'm aware, it's just the faces that have that alloy 'brushed' look, all the bits, sides, tops, footrest mounts, holes etc were just a cast finish, (and not finished that well either, as Bare says, quality control, that wouldn't be accepted nowadays)

F1 should be silver other than the smooth faces and the tail bit at the pillion peg.
I usually get them vapour blasted (or simply rubbed down) then paint silver.
After that sand the paint off the face then quick buff with a stitched mop for a semi polished/satin finish.
There are pics in my n1 thread of the nos ones I fitted or if you need better pics give me an email addy and I can do pics of the original finish pair I have for my lc2 build.

Just got mine back from the blaster. Decided to leave them as is. Not sure how easily they will pick up dirt but they look great on the kitchen floor.

Those are N2/F2. I fitted some of these to my F1 and as it was not standard I wanted mine a little different so I blasted them with glass beads and then gave em a smear of WD40, they look great, but its not OEM.

Yes, I recall reading about that. Are the F1 OEM harder to come by or you like the F2 version aesthetics? Your footrest is in the mail btw.

I dont think they are harder to come by, in fact i have a spare of one side if anyone needs one, its ugly and painted but its whole. Yep, I just preferred the thinner and more 500 style of the later version on my build back then, but more recently I decided to return it to standard so have been working on the bits I changed (pipes, footrests etc). Cheers re footrest

Ok, LCs are all done... polished, glass bead blasted the non polished areas and then crystal clear powder. when polished they looked too bling, but the powder has dulled it a bit, and also brought up the finish on the bead blast, pics is crap, actual results were really very good on such old cast trashed parts. My F1's will need to be painted as the rubber exhaust hanger wont come out.... So what i learnt was that the glass bead looks ok on the LC's, but really really matches the F1's original finish which was a bit more 'cast' in appearance. Either way they all look a billion times better than they did at the start of this week. Thanks all. Polished: Powdered:
