Hi all I am hoping you can please help me my speedo stopped working completely a short while ago so I did the normal checked the cable put a drill on the end and run the speedo up so nothing wrong with cable or speedo so it must be the speedo drive on the front wheel saw one on eBay reconditioned (Taymar Racing) so I bought it I have just done 33 miles with it running perfect then nothing done the drill on the cable and everything runs fine so it must be the drive at the front wheel but I am finding it hard to believe that two speedo drives can fail just like that . Any ideas please

If the drive is dead, there are some used ones on ebay for £10, so not too expensive to replace :-)

Where are you located, as someone local to you may be able to cast another pair of eyes over the issue.....

As mentioned, sure you haven't put the wheel in and squashed to drive tangs in the wheel, this would stop any speedo from working including the replacement obiously

As said, could be the two prongs on the washer plate that engage the speedo drive, wheel off and check !

Pretty hard to kill... lets see some pics of the thing so we can see the damage, also give the innards a good clean up, 30+ years of oil grease and dirt wont help. Even a good clean with WD40, tooth picks, small screwdrivers and a tooth brush would help if you dont have something more pro.

Drive washer is the favorite to give up as has been suggested, either the tangs aren't properly engaging with the drive, or one tang may have broken off.

Hi all I have looked at my speedo and the drive plate looks intacked but it still doesn't seem to mate up with the speedo drive gear , it must worn down or something so I have ordered one from Norbo should be with me Tuesday now my only problem is how do you strip the front wheel down Oil seal and if I have to destroy the oil seal does anyone know where I can buy a new one

Hi, If you post a few pics, that might help us to help you a bit better. If it has been fitted badly/wrongly in the past, the lugs on the drive plate can get bent, and then wont engage with the speedo drive. There are two cutouts on the wheel too, that the speedo drive plate engages with. You can prise the old seal out easily with a screwdriver or something like that, if you are careful, you could probably re use it, but new ones are readily available, Im sure Norbo will have them too.

If you pull the seal it has numbers on it, any bearing place will probably have one.
