Should the mounting plate that secures the clocks to the top yoke be bolted on the underside of yoke or on top, mine is underneath and seems a bit low as the clutch cable comes across the face of speedo which is annoying . I tried bolting on top which seems better but the slotted bracket on the side of headlight won't lign up to get the cross head screw in, I tried moving the headlight ears up but still won't have it... Look forwards to any advice.. Cheers.

Hi Matty, It left the factory on the UNDERSIDE, and some of the purists will burn you at the stake for it being anywhere else ! Some folk do put it on the top, some by accident and some intentionaly. Mine is on the top, as I have ace bars on mine, and I required the extra clerance. As you rightly said, the small slotted bracket under the headlight doesnt line up, but I made a small "transisition piece" from a bit of stainless steel to connect the two together, to allow the headlight to be secured in the correct position. Anything will do to make the transition piece, but a nice piece of ally or s/s flat strip is what Elsie deserves, even an old bit of beer can or something cut up would do, but as I said, Elsie deserves better. If your realy struggling, im sure I have several laying about somewhere, as I made a few until I was happy. If you need a pic of what is required, plz let me know and i will dig one out. steven. Here is a side on pic of mine, with the clox on the top.....any excuse for a pic, as Iv hardly been out on mine this year, and it is due for its MOT in a month ! Looking at my callendar, my LC was first registered 36 years ago yesterday.

... I knew I had them somewhere, here are the ones I made that did not pass quality control ! but it gives you an idea of what im going on about, and the kind of shape etc you are looking for. If you want a few or a piece of stainless plate to make your own, PM me your address and I will drop a few in an envelope for you, as I cut some extra s/s plate too.... just incase. cheers, steven.

Curious...My Clocks are mounted on top of the triple clamps's rubber bungs. Fit perfectly, as No dicking around with headlight mountings was required. Whereas mounting Under the bungs fouled the headlight bucket. Possibly different headlight ears on Cdn market bikes? Unlikely, but anything is possible.

Bit of a grey area here as i have seen close up pics on ebay and some seem to be above and some below!? Oh well they can stay where they are for now as everything is apparently standard on my bike and all fits ok apart from clutch cable is annoying. Thanks for reply.

Mine mount on the top and everything lines up well. Nothing lines up at all on the bottom although that is where i think they look the best also a Canadian 4y3 model. Going to make some mounting adapters for below the top yoke. The look of the clocks on the LC are IMO the only real style mistake they made on this bike a couple big frog eyes .

I like the way they look Rob Hi, Thanks, I got the ace bars new, from ebay, they were advertised to fit a BSA A65, they fit fine, once I put the clox on the top of the top yolk. cheers, steven.

IMO the height of the handlebars has Large visual effect on the seeming height of the Clocks (mounting bungs are at best 20 mm thick after all) and whether it looks like frog eyes.. or not.

Coincidentally, I was fitting a new clock set onto my 5E0 on Sunday and mistakenly installed them above the top yoke. It was only when I realised that I could refit all the fasteners and cables much more easily that the penny dropped as to what I had done (although as KevtheRev says, the headlamp adjuster bracket alignment was way out).
I almost left them like it but decided the clocks looked too high, so swapped them back to the original position under the yoke and then spent the next 15 mins cursing whilst trying to refit everything!
One thing that did strike me though was that on the original clock set, the 3 electrical wiring harnesses were fed through the speedo and tacho cutouts in the bottom clock cover whereas on the replacement set they all exit together in the centre of the housing, which seemed to line up better with the cutout in the headlamp shell.
My question is, which routing is correct and does it make any material difference?

Hi Steven,
Just joined the forum recently and learnt heaps already!! Nice machine and particularly like the black wheels. My LC 4L0 arrived with matt black wheels, and matt black side casings, and matt black frame (in places!). I think the previous owner had a large can of it. Can I ask what made you go for the all black look instead of the alloy, black mix - just interested ;-)
Cheers,
Rich

Hello Rich, It was probably just lazyness on my part, as restoring wheels back to their former glory, is a lot of work and time, and im not keen on polishing, as it doeant make it go any better. I prefered to focus my attention to other areas of the restorarion.....same story with the fork lowers. The forks and wheels are both powder coated, done at the same time as the frame etc. I also think that at certain angles and in certain light, a solid black wheel helps to detach your attention from the fact that LC wheels/tyres are very skinny compared to modern stuff. Thanks for the nice comments, hope to see some pics of your 4L0, as we all like to look at others bikes. cheers, steven.

I hadn't considered the 'skinny tyre' syndrome as I quite like the lighter look it gives the LC. I have bookmarked your photos for later reference. You can see some of my photos under renovation 'franglais 350lc'. Cheers for now.
