Just come to fit my paintwork for the first time and fastened on the fuel tap to find threads gone! It was fine before but something has gone seriously wrong,i managed to pass through some bolts from the inside of the tank and use them as studs but fuel leaking down thread! Looks like I will have to try a sealing washer inside the tank unless anyone can suggest anything else or take it out to M8 if anyone has tried this? Off to drown sorrows 😥 Muzz

That's a nightmare
Just fitted mine to the new bodywork and was cringing tightening them just in case it went wrong
Best you can do is order 4 of the rubberised washers that go on the screws and fit them inside and out.
That should sort it

Yes thinking about rubber washer in tank and a small o ring on outside tank then fit the tap - had the bodywork done about 3 years ago but been running it in different colours but we'll pissed off!

What's happened there then? Does a correct size bolt pass straight through or are the threads full of paint?

It was fine before paint but think it's been acid dipped or something seems that it was only paint on the threads as the bolts passed through from the inside with just a wiggle tank is the original one and it's not had that much use.

If you make up a small piece of plate with a cutout for the filter bit to go through and two nuts braized on at the correct centers that could go inside the tank? An assistant with a bent coat hanger would help during fitting.

I thought about something like that but cannot even see the tap hole from the fuel cap - good job I work in a hospital I can borrow some gynaecologist instruments!

Yes I used a small strong magnet on a Allen key and got them through that way there cannot be much good thread left, so will try again in the morning with hopefully a clear mind, I am going to try get a washer on in side then a small o ring on outside and cross my fingers . It never even occurred to me this might happen but hopefully once it's sealed that should be it as don't really fancy helicoid or taking it to 8 mm

Make up the plate with two nuts on. Fit it through the rectangular hole. Hold in place with two lengths of threaded bar. Then change one at a time with the correct bolts. Sorted.

Well lot happier today! Had another go and a combination of rubber seals on inside o rings on outside with bolts through from inside tank and it's back on bike and holding fuel so fingers crossed back on road next week😀 thanks for all help and suggestions.
