right, nice low mileage 350r ypvs rebuild. torqued barrel down upon genuine base gaskets , barrels and head didnt take much to clean up .genuine head gasket fitted . now the bikes not road rideable yet so its hooked up to one on them drip tanks so it can run for as long as i want. So i ran it with no coolant for a short while ,let it cool down retorqued head then added coolant fired up ...leaked at front of head . now upon removing the head the gasket looked as if it hadn't 'taken' it was hard to see a point of leakage in the gasket itself as it was wet all around the head. tried a pattern gasket i had with a light smearing of sealent to no avail. ive tried the metal ruler across the barrels and they seem to be level.
so..does the bike need to be ridden under normal engine load to help the gasket seal? is it worth giving the head a light skim? or anything else. thanks in advance.

I think your supposed to tighten the head to the barrels before tightening the barrels down

after rebuild i run the bike with out water in it, let it cool then nip the bolts up again and fill with coolant, never had a bike leak!
if its a copper gasket, drain the fluid, anneal the gasket, retry it!

Lotsa possibles: . Differing height Barrels . Running No water spot warped something . Overtorque on bolts (these take silly low torque) . Crap headgasket Or worse: a copper one

Don't want to hijack, but as I've a Cu head gasket that I've taken off to see where/why it was pressurising coolant - could see evidence of gas blow to the water jacket. Do you use standard torque for copper? and retorque after a heat cycle? Ta.
