Can anyone tell me what is the length of the OEM drain plug?
Read on here that if it is too long it will block oil flow to the gearbox.. Is this true?

It certainly is true , I can't tell you the correct length as I just cut mine down as I had the side casing off at the time so I worked from that as you can see the oil way

Not so much blocks flow but blocks off the drain passage from the clutch case
This only leaves the shift drum bearing as the only oil passage
If you have a clear cover fitted you notice when you take it off the side stand it takes a good 5 mind to level out in the clutch so if left on the side stand there ain't much oil in the clutch side when you start up

All the plugs i have block the hole off, i thought this was wrong but yamaha must of had a reason for this. Steve has a good point. I have also been trying to imagine how the oil circulates within the cases.

As I remember I opened it up about 3/4 , it certainly makes checking the level easier , I used to find I kept over filling it as it took soooo long to settle

Circulation wise the only thing I see is the splash tray above the clutch basket. Is seems it is there to collect the oil thrown by the clutch and direct it over the bearing and gear shaft..
If the drain bolt blocks the passage then maybe this is how it should be...
