Hello to one and all just joined today . I have just bought a 1988 UK F2 350 as I need a toy in the garage for tinkering purposes I have a strange issue with the oil level warning lamp . It does not come on when you come turn the key to ON The nuetral light comes on and I believe the oil light should come on and then go out as a sort of bulb check ? The bulb is fine and when I slowly lift the sensor out of the tank the lamp lights up to warn of low oil (a must ) It is a 2 wire sensor and according to the haynes manual it is fed from the neutral switch but it would obviously need to light up if the oil ran low when you were bombing along in high gear !! I have looked at the wiring diagram but it is not massively clear when it comes to the oil warning lamp Unless any of you have experienced this issue you wont have given it a second thought Is there a oil level warning lamp system expert out there bit of a long shot but worth putting it out there Also has any one had the problem of the main stand bending when kickstarting the bike .When I removed the stand there was not a spot of rust on it .It just crumpled I dont think I have a superpowerful right leg . Very strange ! Bye 4 now

When you switch the bike on the neutral light will come on (as long as it is in neutral) and the oil light will come on.
After a few seconds (if oil level is ok) the oil light will fade out.
The neutral light bulb has a constant 12v feed to it and the bulk is earthed through the neutral switch.
If the wiring diagram showed it linked to the neutral light it will just be where the feed for the oil circuit is from and will earth through the sensor. If bulb is ok and the neutral light works then I would suspect the sensor

Thanks for that I think its prob best to try another sensor first. I wonder what magic makes the bulb come on and then go out I am a sparky and like to understand these things cheers

wow have just noticed the search function and previous post mentions a capacitive type gizmo in the sensor so it does point to that cheers

Hello Yozzer,
As Delbert said I was troubled by the operation of the oil level sensor a few days back. If as you said when you pull the sensor up the light goes on then you have already found that your wiring, and bulb are all ok. There is no separate ground path to light up the bulb during the self test but it seems that there is a capacitor in the sender that acts as a temporary ground and the light goes on for a few seconds and then fades off.
What I noticed is that the system works when you flick the main switch but if you flick the main more than twice then the capacitor remains charged and the light does not come on. Wait I couple of minutes and the light goes in again.
If the self test does not work at all then as Steve said you are in for a new sender.
Welcome to this great forum, there is a specialist for every issue you face with your bike...
