Hi All, Having had two 250LCs and then a TZR250 back in me youth, with mates riding 350LCs and F2's, in a mid-life crisis moment I decided what I really needed was a YPVS LC2 to keep the TRX company in the garage. Picked the bike up at the weekend and 90 miles later can say it's painfully slow. Revs happily enough up to 6-7K but wouldn't pull over that in top and the M25 at 75mph is no fun. The guy said it was an RD, Insurance company say it's grey (RZ) so am thinking it's restricted. Will source some 31-00 carbs and pull the pipes off to see if they have washers in, was the ECU also nobbled on the German/Swiss/Wherever it's from bikes?

Only the German 31w model was restricted.
Carbs and pipes marked 31w but just jetting and restrictions in the exhaust headers.
What is the frame number? This will identify the model.
Also take the cover off the power valve pulley, Rev it's tits off and see if it rotates anticlockwise.

Thanks Steve, frame/engine number is 31K-008402. If it's not restricted then it must be poorly.....

Hi Yogi, yes it was me who paid too much I don't think you paid too much It was too much for what I wanted to do with it, I'm just after a matching numbers Lc2 to go with parts I've got Worth checking the powervalves ain't 180 degrees out

Thanks Yogi, got a manual coming so will check the powervalves first. A mate on the VTR forum reckoned connecting them the wrong way round happens, so am hoping it's something like that. Slower than my old 250LC, powervalve or not .

Easy to check mate, remove the left cover, undo the 10mm bolt and pull off the plastic cable guide, turn valve end upside down, reconnect and go for a blast.that is assuming the powervalve controller is working of course. Good luck with it What area are you from?

Just checked the frame number and it is a European 1983 rd350lc2 so not restricted and not an rz
Not a grey import, probably just not first registered in uk

Cheers Tig. Yogi, thats where I picked my TRX up from, not too far. Unlike Mount Bures, where I got the LC2 from, 'kin 90 miles, throttle to the stop and 80 max lol.

Check the operation of the PVs by revving with the cover off as has been said, dont just swap the cables, that wont end well. i think there was a youtube video about it, but it could well be that youve a snapped cable or a duff PV servo, so see if they turn when you switch the ignition on, always a good start.

Hi Jonw, they spin when you turn the ignition on so seems they are working.

easiest way to check if the power valves are not phased 180 degress out is to look at the joining peice between the cylinders, if the screw heads are facing upwards then the PV's are phased correctly, if they are pointing downwards then they are 180 degress out.
It could also be a problem with mismatched CDI, stator and flywheel

oh and welcome to the forum........

Hi Jonw, they spin when you turn the ignition on so seems they are working. Cool, thats a good start. Pull the cover off the other end and see if that one does it as well, the clamps mask the damage and sometimes one isnt working. Next, see if they move as you rev it. (not the best video but sort of helpful, there are others) If they work as designed at that point then while they may not be great, they are working and you need to look elsewhere...

Welcome mav, as said above it shouldn't be anything major. Might be worth decoking the pipes as well. My lc was down by 25mph top speed once and all it was were gummed up pipes. Cheers Nick.

Powervalves rotating anti-clockwise when over 6K, carbs and piupes stamped 31K so maybe in need of a good decoke or it's really poorly

Might be a good idea to do a compression check next. If it's down then that would explain the power loss.

Could it be massively over jetted? have you checked and balanced the carbs, or looked to see what's fitted inside, emulsion tubes blocked, main jet fallen out etc?

Not had the carbs off yet. My TRX got sold today so will have more room in the garage soon to properly tear it down.

Bit embarrassing - turns out I was riding it like a four stroke - took it out up the M23 for a thrash and wound it back in every gear and no problem hitting the ton. Forgot (it has been 20 years) how screamingly quick these are when you really thrash them. Mechanical sympathy went around the time the grin started spreading across me grid. Brilliant fun on the A/B roads, addictive as hell. I can't stay off the thing lol
