Hello Chaps, thought i'd post in this section as maybe more people will see it. On the 27 of September me and my trustee rd will be doing "The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride" again. This is an excuse to dress up like a tit and raise money for the fight against prostat cancer. Lets face most of us are in that danger category. Although a nurse did tell me once "if you regularly flush your pipes it will be better for you" (bit ironic for a two stroke forum) So if you got any spare change left after all the rebuilds and fuel costs, why not donate it here. Thank you Tobyjugs

Hi Toby, Thought I better make a wee donation since you've been spreading so much good karma recently!
Two most difficult parts were finding the 'here' button on your post above and working out that the donation amount is in euros for some reason?
I'd encourage others to do likewise, you're right, we're all at risk.
More power to your elbow, or should that be wrist? (I mean opening the throttle, not 'clearing the pipes' like the nurse instructed you to do! You should have asked her for a practical demonstration...... I'll stop now!)
All the best,
Russie.
P.S. Ever seen Billy Connelly on about getting his prostate checked? See here

Great cause and I don't mind sponsoring anyone, don't like the bit where it says,' pre approve future payments'. Any other way make a donation?

If you click on that you'll see an explanation of what it means. It's not what you might fear.

Been working nights and the internet in the hotel is very slow. Somebody give me some money to donate and i did not see the "pre approve future payments" I believe you all, maybe something to do with the english charity system? Arrow i do not have pay pal. Story TimeAs some of you may of noticed i siezed the engine of the bike i am going to do the Gentleman's ride on. This happened after a 200+ km drive, Luckily not far from my house. The culprit was a partially blocked fuel filter. I had renewed the filters just before i set off (part of the take no chances for the ride policy) I guess they don't say "If it ain't broke don't fix it" for nothing. Here is the piston The cylinder did not feel to good either. After getting over the initial "Oh Bollocks feeling" i noticed that it was mostly aluminium in the cylinder liner. I went upstairs and made some salt water and used this to tarnish the steel and show up the aluminium. After carefully rubbing out the aluminium with some emery cloth i give it a very quick hone to see what it looked like. To my surprise it did not look too bad. I then honed it a bit more and it looked good apart from two fine stripes. This cheered me up and the hunt was on for a piston. I am lucky to have quit a lot of bits and pieces and found an old piston with some slight pick up marks that was the correct size. The piston ring grooves were in good condition as well as the crown and hardly any colouration on the under side of the crown. I removed the piston rings fitted them into the cylinder liner and measured the ring gap this was 0.85mm hmm a bit too big! I then removed the rings from the damaged piston and examined them under a magnifying glass they did not seem too bad. Put them in the cylinder liner and the ring gap was 0.35mm. These are the same type as the worn out ones so decided to use them. Everthing fits and is within tolerance Yipee! The bottom of the skirt was not the same so this was filed to match the other piston. I then weighed both pistons and cleaned up the window area of the new secondhand piston until they were the same weight. The engine was built back up. the only differance being the original squish was 1mm and now it is 1.6mm. I have been away this week so could not wait to start it up tonight. First i cleaned the carbs, started it up did a few more checks, Tonight i gingerly pootled around the outskirts of my village several times and did about 15 km's If the weather holds out tommorrow will be crunch time when i do a few plug checks. I guess there are quite a few of you out there cringing about what i have done. I would call it a calculated risk. The bores are on +200 so there is not much life in them and as long as it holds together this week after some testing i am very confident that a little pootle on the Gentleman's ride will be no big deal. I do have a spare engine but its very rattly does not look so nice, it is quite potent though. Thats for plan B ha ha

That's bad news. Good you can still go on the run. I guess the pre approved payments means that the money won't go out until the event is over, either way I will make sure you get the donation.

I do have a spare engine but its very rattly does not look so nice, it is quite potent though. Thats for plan B ha ha I'm not cringing at what you've done. I admire what you did. I've seen lots of racers doing that some years back, in fact, I've seen Joey Dunlop do that at Skerries once ( he used to fettle his own two stroke engines you know !). I reckon if it was good enough for him, then it'll do for the likes of you and I. Clever trick making the liner rust to highlight the pick up. Difference in squish seems significant but not sure how much odds it will make? I know some older TZs used to run an offset squish but I couldn't tell you why, my guess would be a bigger squish gap on the exhaust port side to marginally reduce heat in that area compared to the inlet side? Well done anyway.
