What a sight to behold.
I saw this fly at Cosford airshow the other weekend. And once before.
Awesome.
Cost a fortune to restore and now they are retiring it.

They have no choice mate, its done its hours. In my twenties I was working on a house in Woodford and three of them flew over and did a steep climb, I thought the house was going to fall down, absolutely amazing spectacle that I will never forget.

Hi, I saw it last year at the Scottish Airshow at Prestwick, it did a flying display on the Saturday, and was at the airport for the static display on the Sunday. It was flown at the airshow by Martin Withers no less, he was the pilot on "Black Buck 1" when a Vulcan Bomber bombed the airfield in the Falklands. Vulcan XM597 is also at East Fortune Airfield near Edinburgh. This is the Vulcan that was involved in "Black Buck 6" the one that broke its re-fueling probe off, and had to land in Brasil on its way back to Ascension Island. It says on the Scottish Airshow site that the Vulcan will be making its farewell visit to Scotland for this years airshow on the 5th and 6th of Sept. steven. www.scottishairshow.com/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Black_Buck

I'm dishing out incorrect information, there are other flights planned this year, list of events is as follow: www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances.htmlI was quoting straight from the local news who like me hadn't read the article properly, this year is its last though. Andy

I saw one at the RAF Church Fenton airshow in the early 70s and still clearly remember the low flypast, steep bank and climb .. the noise was truly deafening and shook right through you. Memories to treasure, especially with the last remaining Vulcan retiring this year.
If you have never seen one before then you really should check the website and go along to one of the displays if you can.

it sure does make a noise which is good.myself and a work mate were invited in to the c**k pit and given a run down on this and that and when they went to the usa for an exercise this is where the 2 engineers sat for the flight .no way would I sit there for that length of time.ah it was a different time then.

Just been checking the year plan , not looking like coming local to me, I'v had the camara at the back door ready for a few weeks when its Cosford time. Last few years it flown over me on route from Leicester area to Cosford . Did get a shot one time. Last year I think was around the next doors on a Sunday afternoon and it bank over as it come past , running low and slow . Just an awsome site . Many years ago in the late 70's a school mate of mine's dad took us to RAF Finningly near Docaster a few times (in his Vauxall victor estate 2300 remember it like yesterday) . Looking back now I was very lucky , I've seen Vulcans, Lightnings , and the rest of the delta wings, as well as all the other air show big planes.
Have to make time and take a look , can go on my plane bucket list with seeing the 2 Avro Lancaster's last year.
While talking about the Vulcan , there was a TV documentry about how they refueled the Vulcan's to the Falklands using the Victor tankers which in turn had to be refueled to reach the Vulcans ,very interesting.

I saw it at Fairford last week. AWESOME. Love the noise, it flew with the red arrows forming a V around it. The lightning was another noisy favourite. Shame they all get grounded eventually.

A great aircraft, ended up in a role completely opposite to it's original design. I love wandering around the static one at East Fortune Museum of Flight, it's been there since I was a kid.

Hi, There was high drama at the Scottish air show on Saturday with the Vulcans last flight in Scotland.
After the Vulcan did its flying display, it departed to land at Prestwick, as the Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight started their display. Next thing we knew was the Vulcan was reporting to Prestwick tower on 118.150 Mhz that he had green lights for his main wheels, but a red light for his nose wheel, denoting that his nose wheel was not locked down !
The Spitfire was detached from his display to fly along side the Vulcan and check that his nose wheel was down, but it was only at approx 30 deg, so was not fully extended.
The fire engines and emergency vehicles lined up as the Vulcan came in, and we were all expecting the worst, but Im delighted to report it was a happy ending.
The Vulcan left Prestwick on the Sunday and returned to Robin Hood airfield at Doncaster and flew all the way home, at a reduced speed with its landing gear down, in case it jammed again.
High drama indeed.
Someone got a great video of it, to include the chatter between the Vulcan, Spitfire and Prestwick tower on the radio.
steven.
