Hi, I've got a one owner low mileage RD500 in good condition - I reckon it's worth £7000 to £8000 on a good day ( I think even this is a crazy price ! ) Originality seems important to a lot of people aspiring to and owning RD500's - so go over the bike and make sure the small easily fixed details are correct. Your bike looks really good, but the missing Yamaha decals on the belly pan for example can give a wrong impression to a picky buyer - I think a small investment in money and time fixing small faults will pay off - however don't pay too much out - good quality RD500 spares prices are a bit crazy at the moment. Hope this helps. Cheers Paul Decals aside, I would normally agree with you. But in this case, I'd prefer to see the flaws, rather than repair the bits I've listed. They would require paint to finish, therefore taking away the originality. The new owner could make that decision, but that originality is then gone. Maybe I'm unusual in this outlook, small cosmetic issues don't put me off, it just means its been around for 30 years! Repairs can also make me wonder to what extent the damage really consisted of.

Fozzy, but with all the time and effort and parts costs and then the initial price of the bike, how much do you recon it owed you? It was a stunning looking bike.

I agree with you on the idea of originality and I guess some but not too much 'patina' - my 1 owner 47X won't ever have a full restoration - but I will replace the worst bits with better, but not new replacements - ie something that is in keeping with what is already there - fortunately for me it will only need a few small parts on my bike - mainly a few fasteners at the bottom of bike and a better, but used OEM rear shock - this is the kind of thing that I had in mind for the bike being sold in this thread rather than anything extensive - it already looks quite good in the photo - sorry if I didn't convey my thoughts very well.
Cheers Paul

No offence taken Paul. I'm still torn on selling it to be honest.

I think you need to consider what you are going to do when its sold. If you don't need the money then keep it, unless you want to replace it with a different bike altogether.

It won't be replaced. I'm struggling for space in my garage, so need to clear the decks a bit. Possibly another 5 or 6 bikes to let go yet, no other RD's before anyone asks! I know if this one goes, I'll never justify another one, and it doesn't make it any easier letting it go....

When the garage is full then that's when you start filling the dinning room.

Original 1998 R1, KR1S and another TDR250 are on the 'at risk' list next.
