Recently show a gent, who just opened a re-chroming business, my black Micron exhausts with wear marks. Oddly, he had never seen black chrome and told me he had no idea what the finish was and could go either ceramic or powder coat to re-do them. I like the original finish - what's best?

I have the same finish on a set I have, black chrome scratches really easily so I was looking for some other explanation for the finish, it just doesn't make any sense to put it on exhausts. I wonder if it is easier / cheaper to apply? Anyhow, I am stuffed, mine need modifications and I am not sure you can even paint over it to re finish them?

Well appearently there is a powder coat that is good up to 1200F - that what I was told but don't have a cost yet.

Micron 'black' is NOT chrome.. but some proprietary finish. One can readily spray paint over the Micron Black.. should one want to

Microns web site is a bit crappy and it's hard to find any info about what it really is, I like it and would like to re finish mine as well. Anybody know what it's called, the process or a contact at micron that can fill us in?
It is a good looking finish, does scratch, however it seems to preserve the exposed metal where scratched, very little corrosion on mine except around the exhaust port with the heat.

Perhaps its the same as blue-ing on a gun barrel. Certainly no anodize - heat wouldn't take it.
