I know a lot of guys have restored their pipes on their LCs, and a few mention using chemical metal as a filler as it is heat resistant, but is that my only option? Ive had trouble with the version of chemical metal ive found here not fully going off under paint and before i search out JB Weld or something else thats a two part, is there a better filler to use?

Brazing is best.
You need to grind off the plating on the pipe first or it will not take

Oh theyre plated? LEarn somthing new ever day... with what Steve? I thought they were just painted with thick black paint :/ So, plan is to whack on a load of braze and then file back to the right curvature. I could do that.

Not sure what with but it ain't paint
Looks like some plating, not black chrome but similar but with a duller finish.
You can sand/rub the black off but unless you go down to the steel it won't stick.
As you say blob on the braze then dress back with a band sander or flap wheel

believe it or not the original coating was our old friend the "green passivate", but I think it was more a of a blacking finish, but yes, you need to clean it off, emery cloth does the trick, and yes, brazing is the preferred option, or if really bad, you can build them up with weld, grind to suit, then braze over to get a nice smooth finish/fill any pin holes etc
or just buy some spannies and have nice looking pipes that sound well - although I do like the sound of standard pipes on an LC if I am honest !

Blimey, the green passivate brigade mjst have a field day with all those pipes weve painted LOL. My Mum always said you learn something new every day, green pipes is mine for today and its only 7:50am. Thanks for the brazing idea, will have a go with that

JB weld works ! embarassingly well. Easy to apply easy(ish) to sand Think of it as heat resistant body filler. But just like any filler, it needs roughened clean metal to grip onto... and gloping it on too thickly is not best practice. Braze certainly works at filling and patching damages, it's a good technique. But IMO it's also some rascal to achieve a smooth Panel beater approved surface finish with. Likely end up using JB as final smoothing/ finish coat .
