I think someone was asking recently if anyone had some experience of the ebay Indian tanks, well see this.... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rd250-350lc-petrol-tank-/171671963613?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item27f87247dd''hi there. this auction is for a new rd250/350lc petrol tank in raw metal. I purchased this tank from india about a year ago. it cost me just over £300. the problem with the tank is that it is to narrow to fit on my lc. it should be about 15-20mm wider where it fits over the frame of the bike picture 2. may be of use to someone who is good at fabrication and welding. uk bidders only'' An expensive lesson we can learn from!

May well be the case..... seller would have to pay for the return as sold for unfit use. Cost more than the crappy ol tank.....

I think it says it all,"Made In India", they also make some XT500 tanks but they are not right either. A mate of mine commissioned some tanks for his British bikes, infact he bought a couple of bikes that had been restored out there, they arrived in the UK looking pretty good but within a few months they were covered in rust, very poor restoration quality. The thing with the tanks is that they send the first one over and it looks spot on but when you then order a load they just knock them out any old how and just take the money. The quality control leaves a lot to be desired!!
Yuni parts in Derby have a lot of parts for XT500's made in India and they have a job lot of DT175 steel fenders to shift that are not quite right even though they sent an original (from me) they are too long and not the right profile, hand made though.

Looking at the first picture in the e-bay link , it looks like one side is formed out wider the other side from the front view, when you look agian at the detail on the seem welding there is a lot to be desired.
May be we should get Guy Martin to drop in and show the guys how to make one while he's over there. If he can find the street corner they are at, its the one with a kurb the right profile where they bash the steel around before welding it up without a mask!

Might be barking up the wrong tree here, but has anyone considered the idea of blow molding the tanks using an original item as a pattern? The blow moulded tanks on cars are very accurately moulded. I used to check them prior to going on the line for the X type Jag. Just a thought.

Surely not too hard to make a cast of a good tank and make cast mould sections to press, blow or hammer into shape Steve

I was thinking it could be made in one go, from a single moulding. That stuff is almost indestructible as well!
