Hi all, latest project is rusty to say the least, and all nuts, bolts fixings etc are going to need a good soaking in order to release them without snapping the heads off, I usually use WD40 but was wondering if there was anything else out there that would give better results.
Cheers

My favourite c**ktail that never fails to release stuff is;
40% Auto transmission fluid 40% Thinners 20% Diesel or paraffin
Give it a shake before use as it settles. Obviously, with the thinners in the mix, careful what you use it on...

Won't be a problem with the paintwork on this project as there isn't any left on it

How about freeze and release by loctite. Personally i think it is rubbish and just a gimmick but some of my colleagues love it Still anything is better than an easyout!

Super slaks or Diesel for me. After that it usually involves some heat to prevent snapped bolts/studs.

Also try hitting the heads first a few times before removing, this helps to shock the threads a bit, careful though if they are in alloy casings etc. Heat helps as well if you have access, although I've used a good heat gun with great results too. sorry if you know this already

Don't know why people use wd40 as a releasing agent, as its a water displacer first and foremost, and is actually pants at freeing anything off as said plus gas works well, and the above home brew is a good mixture.

I was thinking Plus Gas but can't seem to find any anywhere, a gentle tap with a hammer to shock the threads and the application of a little heat is the usual way I deal with these things. Usually apply a little heat before applying a freeing agent. Will see if i can't track down some Plus Gas and if not the home brew it is !!

+1 on the Loctite freeze it,only works on small bolts in small housings
Try Wurth Rost Off,spray on and leave 10 mins
or heat it up then pour cold water on it does the same trick as the freeze it
+1 on the shock treatment too, a good impact driver will work
+1 on the c**ktails above they will all help too

Very good, but mention wd40 to anyone and its the normal yellow and blue can they think of which is readily available and is not a releasing agent .....we get through tons of the stuff at work people spray it and wonder why the offending retaining nut/bolt still won't budge.
