I have a problem with the voltage output on my bike, This is a 350ypvs f1, so I start the bike and the voltage I get on the meter it crazy. The meter runs from zero to full scale (20 volts) and continues on this loop constantly.
Replaced the reg/rec with a used one (seller said its from a running bike) but the problem remains. Tested both r/r and the diodes seem to be reversed on both. Is the testing procedure for the r/r written correctly in the Haines book? Searched the old treads and there was someone saying that the book has red and black meter cables the wrong way around...
Tested the coil and the readings are fine. Has anyone had this happen before?
Thanks

That's a weird problem Kostas - where are you measuring the volts - across the battery? Certainly sounds like a regulator problem but you would be unlucky to get 2 faulty reg/rec.
I don't know about the Haynes book as I don't have one for the f1

Yes I'm measuring across the battery terminals. These two r/r are either both good or faulty as both check out exactly the same.
Anyone had this?

Surely it must be R/R circuit issues as that is what it would read if you bypassed it

Try a different meter

+1 :-) Also make sure meter is on DC reading not AC.

Thanks for the input fellas, Sorted the charging problem today, Turns out my multimeter goes crazy when I get it close to the bike with it running! Even without touching the battery terminals. So I hooked it up to the battery using two long wires and the problem is solved, 14.5 volts output Kostas
