I'm fairly sure it comes off very easy with brake cleaner, once you've bladed the worst off.

gasket remover in a can, i wouldn't use a wire wheel or buff pad it'll destroy the surface
my mech used a razor blade followed by a fine stone

Been using wire wheels since I can't remember. Your more likely to mare the surface with a blade.

Wheel and or a blade is a bit brutal on mating gasket surfaces , use cellulose thinners and scotchbright

Did mine last week ThreeBond 1104, I used Motul brake cleaner sprayed onto a cloth all removed in 10 mins with no damage to the faces.

Laquer thinners ?? OR use 1204 Threebond 'next time'. It peels off, in one piece, if passably careful. Costs wayy more than the Grey Goop though. Pick yer poison :-0
