Glad I didn't go in a van, or I'd now own that shabby RZV500.
I think that was a decent buy for 3K

Glad I didn't go in a van, or I'd now own that shabby RZV500. I think that was a decent buy for 3K +1 It was mullered and I bet the engine was buggered. I really liked the orange foam seat with a bit of seat cover sprinkled on top.

That RZV would have been a huge money pit, probably better to find a much better one for around £6000 but would need to be patient.Cracking bikes on the LC Club stand as usual good on them for making the effort again.

Yes I spotted the RZ500 also, not sure about barn find, more a side of the dockside find. While I was there a guy tried to push the kickstart down , only with is hand though. It did not budge.Thought he wanted more than £3K ? went past later on in the afternoon he got sold on it, as had the white /red 250 and 350 . I seen a rough looking 250 in blue (ish) paint with clip ons , a German bike up for £1250 . Not sure on that one.
Plenty of nice looking 2T bikes in the main hall , apart form the RD500's not sure on fav 2T bike . Really liked a blue RD250 D-E? on the Yamaha classic club stand.
Never heard of the Yam classic club before or seen a stand at the show , they been around long? Went on the LC club stand and had some BS and a chat with the guys on there.Already a member of there club. Told them I had gold end cans on my Allspeeds , they all thought I was mad!

Gents, I bought the shabby RZ500, got it for a bit less than less than £3000. If it is totally screwed, reckon I can get my money back (and more) by breaking it. Will let you know how i get on with it.

Aluminium framed RZ 500 from Japan. (V4 500cc)
No pics I'm afraid.
I think RZ500 is the correct description. Not sure what a RZV is??

Plenty of work, but given what they fetch, you should be able to do a nice job without overspending.

RD and RZ's are steel framed, with only the RZV as mentioned having the alloy frame. Saw it yesterday too, you're a brave man, as it was in shocking condition (from what I saw). Couldn't see where you'd make money back either, but must admit didn't look close up, what was the bodywork like?

I would be interested, as i've got practically a full bike bar engine and frame in boxes.

Good luck with it tippo, you're a brave man. Having said that there should be some money there even if you decide to break it.

Body work is OK. Will need some repairs, but I am sure everything will turn out OK.
When I get her home I will post some pics and provide a report on the state of the engine.
The way I see it, the bike must be worth at least £6000 when restored and so I have over £3000 to put into it before I see a loss.

If you do all the engine rebuild yourself and all the painting you could bring it in on budget. Otherwise £2k + for engine rebuild and £1k+ for paintwork. Then there's tyres, chain and sprockets brake pads wheel bearings, cables, fluids, etc, etc, etc.
Good luck and start a project page for us to follow.

I must admit it looked a state but it was all there... If he would of gone lower I would of probably gone for it. Would love to know how you get on with it.

As stated I will post pics when I get it home. Intend to do most of the refurb myself where practicable.
I am optimistic I can get a good looking bike on the road at a reasonable cost. I also love a challenge.
Time will tell whether it was a good buy or not.

I saw the RZV when looking at the locked RG400 motor. Ralf Punzet (I assume it was his bike) is a nice guy who's always at Stafford. I have an engine of his in one of my RG500s - bought at Stafford about 5 years ago.
Hope there are not too many nasty surprises when you strip the motor.
Pete
