0.16 mm is 5.59* out question is it advanced or retarded. Retarded wont do much but to much advance can be catastrophic. The liner is very thick at the PV side and this will inhibit some of the good the PV does. It really needs to be within 1mm if the piston to be working optimally. If checking on the fly wheel it would be advanced just for examples sake it should be 15 BTdC it is now 20 BTDC. Do not really understand what you mean about the powervalve but this is fixed. What needs to be within 1mm to work correctiy ? I have a few spare cranks all of which are of dubious condition so there will be not too much delay in the reconditioning of a crank. I thought the engine sounded nice and did not shake too much, Thank you for everyones input

there are plenty of rebores in those liners.what size is the piston pin 16mm or 18mm.would it be possible to rework the power valves to get them functioning.kenny was on about the power valves.

Hi Steely, the pins are 16mm. It would be nice to have working power valves, but i first have to get the basics right. I will see what happens once the crank is refitted. I might first ride it with closed pistons and if it still rides like a Gs 550 i will modify the pistons and if that doesn't work i might give the barrels swimming lessons in the canal behind my house Ha ha
I have been trawling through the internet trying to find info over the windows in the pistons and from what i have read it seems they are used for extra cooling of the piston. I also found a few arguments over using ported or closed pistons. Which also ties in with what TSA said and of course he was definitely right about there being something else wrong with the engine.

Are you running rd 400 rods, I have a similar spec on a 4lo 392cc using 68mm banshee sleeves and dt200 pistons on rd400 rods.

Rd400 rods are 5mm longer.

I think the std rod length is 110mm long.

Yes that's correct, rd400 are 115mm long.

The small end bearings are different for RD400 then RD350YPVS....thinner rollers and smaller OD.

The 115 mm rods would push the pistons into the head or do you use a large base plate or different pistons where the length is compensated by the position of the small end bearing?

Correct, different pistons with different wrist pin mounts to give a zero or negative deck height. No spacers.

Hi wallcraft glad you joined in the more the merrier i alway's say.
In essence the port timing has not changed with your special combo and it's a little stronger. Do your pistons have ports in them?

Wallcraft i forgot one question. Does it also ride like a Gs 550?

Yes you're right, cosmeticly the pistons are the same as the ypvs the crown is flatter though. Ha ha it would kill a GS.
