Hi, Had this ancient Spax shocker hanging up in the garage for years, which I took off an LC frame I had years ago. Decided to strip it yesterday using a tool I made to take my Zed shockers to bits a while back, but works fine for LC shockers too. It is market M73 on the top collet. It must be quite old as I see that Spax only do car stuff these days acording to their website, this is the only ever Spax shock I,v seen fitted to a bike,im wondering if it is mabey a car one? Has anyone else ever seen a Spax shocker on an LC ? I have emailed Spax to see if it can be re-serviced by them, but im fully expecting them to tell me to bin it, but we will see what they say. steven.

I had a Spax rear shocker fitted to my LC in the early 90s it wasn't a bad shocker compared to the standard one

Yep, got one in my LC/YPVS Hybrid. Have run it for years, works well for me but I am above average build so may be a bit firm for lightweights

Hi, Thanks for the replies, so they did used to make bike stuff then. Does anyone elses have the number M73 on the top collet? Once I stripped mine down, the damper rod/piston rod doo dah does feel to be in a servieable condition, with plenty of resistance when I push/pull it. I,ll let you know what Spax say if they get back to me about overhauling/serviving the one I have. Im hoping it can be re serviced, as I cant seem to justify spending £300-£500 on one of the modern aftermarket type shockers that are available these days. cheers, steven.

Hi, just checked mine for you. Has 'SPAX M73 SPAX' in raised lettering cast into the top collet. Measured eye to eye centres distance aswell, and it's approx 312-313mm instead of approx 315mm for my original LC shock. Has a different label to yours on it though (Mainly black). Regards, Kev.

Hi Kev, Thanks for the info, My label was black too, due to some heathen spraying it without stripping it, I cleaned the lable with some petrol and all the over spray came off. I see there are small "C" clips in the top and bottom mounts, so the bushes are easily changed. Nothing heard back from Spax yet.
Steeley, what did you type into ebay to find the service folk? I have tried, but cant seem to find anything, thanks. steven.

Spax 01869 244771 ...... i normally find filling in online 'contact' forms a waste of time. Firms must lose so much potential business by not answering online queries. 67Kev.
