Well here is my latest bike to keep me out of the house whilst 'Corry Norry', 'Great British Burka Off' and 'Cum Dancin' is on the telly (fer feck's sake!). Got to get Herman through an MOT first so I can get it registered, so its going to be a case of getting it roadworthy first then poncing it up later on... Previous owners photos Safe back in the bunker...

You don't need a firkin telly with that avatar. I've been watching for hours to see if the good lady drops one.

The clocks were loosely held on so I'm not sure they are the original clocks but hey-ho better than none I suppose, although I shall have to get an MPH overlay sticker for the KPH clock (Anyone got a tatty MPH clock?) for the MOT. Anyone recqonise the sticker? I like a nice headlight......two big ones are even better!! Stripped the exhausts off to have a peak into the bores, exactly how many gaskets are there supposed to be as there was two fibre ones one side and one on the other...Both bores looked fine with light honing marks/crosshatching visible in the bores so they look okay. Took the tank off to have a look...nothing too scary there. (apart from the block connectors that is). Carb reed blocks look okay with no large cracks to worry about. The bike started without choke so I have had the carbs off for a poke about inside. After thirty plus years I was expecting a horror story but they came apart okay and weren't too gummed up although both Main jets were 160, One needle was 4N10 the other 4N16 and one Pilot Jet is #20 the opposite side is #25. (Carbs will be off to work for a dunk in a nice warm Ultrasonic tank next week). Gearshaft has a nice groove in it from the outer casing fretting on it, anyone have any ideas on this? (I was going to get the casing bushed out). I'm not going to strip the engine down just to change the shaft just yet (maybe later on as its doing no harm). Noticed some 'up and down' play when lifting the rear wheel, found it was the swinging arm lower shock mounting holes on both sides worn, only a gnats c**k of play but I reckon it would fail an MOT. Swinging arm is now off and the mounting holes are being bushed by a local machine shop. If you seen anything I haven't noticed in the photo's which needs looking/sorting please comment (Feck-off anoraks!! ).

Herman's lower front disc isn't as bad as it looks to be honest, I fancy converting it to a twin disc set up like the 350 (so I am on the look out for a disc and an early caliper). I wouldn't mind going the whole hog and converting it to a 350 when I can get all the parts together to do it properly without getting ripped/scammed off for these 'rare' parts ''Vorsprung Durch Technik'' so they say here in the Hereford countryside......... or is it ''postępy w technologii'' or ''avansarea tehnologică''

Got the swinging arm back from the machine shop with the new bushes fitted then they were parrallel reamed. Off to the powdercoaters at the weekend for a coat of gloss black along with the brake torque arm. What is the rear brake hub cover standard colour?.....It looks satin black to me.... Is there a 'sticky post' reference on here with the standard colours (Gloss/Satin/Matt), zinc / green plated parts etc? Don't say ''feckin' search for it you lazy knacked old shite'' as its feckin' true I can't be arsed searching..... after the first two 'finds' I get distracted by a different subject which has feck all to do with the thing I was looking for in the first place!!! :-)

Done a little more (cooking) since the last post...... Wondered why there was loads of slack/play in the clutch.....once I had the cover off and cleaned all the crap off you can now see why....Norbo's going to be busy! Paint stripped the front wheel, new bearings and seals fitted, then masked off (Pain in the arse that is!) then sprayed in several coats in satin black. Bought some XJ900 5 rivet twin horns off FleaBay cheap....look as though they might fit, they even have the Hi-Lo decals on. (Horns & brackets need painting tho). This is Herman today, brake splitter fitted with black braided lines. Horn bracket & fittings from Norbo. Waiting for some stainless pins to be sourced and I can get the front end finished. Top yoke still with the powdercoaters as their first attempt was pants. Just to keep the theme and interest going....

Clocks need to be fitted beneath the mountings not on top Clocks were missing the rubber mounts when I bought it. The top yoke had fret marks on the top surface where the clock mount has been fitted incorrectly. Thanks for the info!!

The Clutch casing where the gear shaft went through was well worn, so I bought the bushes from Norbo that were meant for the repair of the Main Casing Gearbox shaft hole.... I got the machine shop to machine down the bushes to the correct length, ream the casing then fit the bushes. Gear change is alot more postive now.

Had Herman the German up and running on a private road/lane this weekend,(Trailered there honest officer).
She seems a bit flat and coughs and splutters up to 6K then takes off to the red line like a good un!. So I'm in the process of sorting out the lower end of the rev band so she runs a little cleaner.
She handles great although the brakes could do with more bedding in before I send Herman to the MoT next week.
A god awful loud squealing noise started after a few miles at the front end........it turned out to be the rev counter! (It works as it should though) After disconnecting the drive from the clock end it stopped of course..... I haven't looked at the rev counter as yet, anyone have any ideas as to the cause of the squealing? (aftermarket rev counter cable fitted).

I'm still waiting for the re-sleeved barrels (380cc conversion) from Fahron Engineering who has had them since March :-( ; Once I have all the engine bits in, sorted and the bike running, I'll strip the bike down and get the frame powder coated and the paintwork done.

I had bought a spare set of carb's and the slides were corroded and the anodising coming off, so I had a guy at work (who makes his own model aircraft engines from scratch) anodise them for me. We didn't know how they would turn out and as it was they are not too bad. (His choice of colour as it was for free!).
