Hi qwerty, welcome to the forum. I think you are saying the stator bolts are at the end of the elongated slot? These bolts adjust the ignition timing. Normally they are not at the end of the slot. You need a dial gauge to properly check the timing marks are correct. Then you need a strobe light to check the ignition timing. Worth checking as you can knacker your pistons if the timings out.
Hope I've answered your question as I think that's what you meant.
Regards Mark

yeah, looks wrong to me, does the bike start/run?, if so, you need to be checking that timing before you ride it, static timing should be 2mm BTDC and with a strobe and the engine running at 2000 rpm the timing marks should align

whereabouts are you in case your local to somebody who could help you out if you need a hand sorting it, its only a 10 min job, but will save you an expensive blow up if its wrong

yup thats them, lol i nearly got my answer cheers! still dont know if it needs moving back from full advance?the bike according to old owner was a runner rebuilt in jan and never run, he said it needed a key and the nut as he nikked it for hes other RD so my job today was to replace key and nut! i havent tried to start it wanted to check it over first
thats when i noticed the timing, where is yours set?
seems to have a rgv running gear , swinger, rgv wheels, 31k carbs with spacers, it got good comp, owner tried to mot it and it failed, not suprised forks twisted in the yokes and chain tension was like a tight rope, and not in line either,
so i want to make it safe before i start it, clean carbs, balance them check oil pump, clean tap, check fluids, thne fire it up!
regards

hi welcome in,good site here .off the top of my head if I have got this right.the rotor on the end of the crank is loose, no nut /washer /spring washer and there is no woodruff key in the crank.so let me get this even more right in my head, you may or may not of heard this bike run. this was a mate right and you have seen it being rode around.sorry for being or seem to be negative, I have been out for a while not as young as I used to be.your best bet is to get the bits you are missing, then have some one drop a dial gauge down the l/h cylinder and set the timing up for you.should be some one on here up your way to help you out.ah just reread your last post.the logbook has the address you picked it up from .
