Hi, If you ask about, some people fit them and some dont. I fitted a full set of new ones and have had no problems what so ever.
Im sure that the problem is in the adjustment of the ecentric adjuster behind the right hand side engine cover. I set mine up when I built the engine and have never been back at it since.
My own thoughts are that this adjustment has to be spot on, and you have to take into account that as these engines are 30 odd years old now and you will get a bit of play in the bush where the gear change shaft goes through the cases. I fitted an new gear change shaft and took a bit of time to make sure that the "hook" was engaging perfectly with the selctor drum, both going up and down the gears. I sat for ages making minute adjusments to the eccentric adjuster and selecting all the gears with the engine on the bench.
You can set it up to what looks like perfet, but due to small amounts of play in the gear selector shaft, when you actualy go to selcted a gear, it might not be engaging properly.
My finding were that if you get it selecting all the gears ok on the bench, all will be well once it is used in anger.
steven.

Thanks OEB, I don't have a copy of the fiche. There are 3 very important items all LC/YPVS owners should have; 1. Parts Fiche 2. Workshop Manual 3. Deep Pockets Download your part fiche HEREOEB

Well I have just learnt something here, did not know that this section existed, every bolt I have replaced with stainless I had to measure and order, if only I knew the size list beforehand it would have saved a whole lot of time
Cheers OEB

The reason some of the clutches drag is if aftermarket plates are fitted or the wrong clutch basket is fitted, some aftermarket plates are slightly thicker than the Yamaha ones which are 3mm if I remember correctly, I've had some aftermarket ones (inc heavy duty EBC) ones that have measured 3.1mm, which doesn't souund much, but times that by 7 and its 0.7mm and given the total clutch travel is approx 1.8mm to 2mm, its quiet a lot to lose, leaving the damper rings out helps.
If you fit the wrong clutch basket, then you can have issues with the stack height as well, so you need to be sure all of the right parts and clearances are present otherwise clutch drag, which also means difficult neutral selection is a high possibility.

EG: 97326-06025, the last 5 digits are the screw/bolt gauge & length, 06=M6, 025=25mm long. HTH OEB

Deep Pockets" bit, then the lights went dim and the power failed lol, im sure though that I cannot be on my own when I say that this bike has taken me months to get where it is, when if I had unlimited finance and tooling then I could have probably done the same in days, but all members on a budget should take heart with this:.... I ENJOY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, to me that's what fannying about in the garage is all about

I am at 10 years + on my RD 500 and still not ridden it. Just keep spending the money on other things.
Going to sell my 1100 Katana next year and get it finished.
