All I can say is thank f*^k for this forum and the immense amount of knowledge shared for free. Weeks ago I stripped my carbs to change the main jets and put the float bowls back on the wrong ones. It's been a bitch to cold start and the choke had no effect. Now I know why, I had noticed the jet in the left bowl before but hadn't realised that the right one is blanked off.
I further complicated things for myself by doing two jobs at once which is a lesson I learnt years ago but sometimes fail to heed my own advice. While I had the bike in bits I'd unplugged all the electrical connectors and checked them. As some were a bit corroded I'd cleaned them up, so when it wouldn't start cold I thought it was down to the pretty piss poor spark. I've spent the last couple of weeks thoroughly checking all the electrics, removing the Banshee coils and refitting the original, trying another CDI all to no avail. Having read the threads on here, the spark on 80's CDI ignitions is not the best (slightly better with the Banshee coils though). So think I'll get a Zeel or an Ignitech, not sure which is better for road use?
Anyway, float bowls corrected and it went second kick. Time for a wash and polish now, 30 year old design or not it's still the one for me.

Yeah. Heart sank, when I came to put the bowls back on, and found they were different. Thank god for the forum. Problem solved in minutes.
