Noticed a had a bit of an oil leak from the lh engine cover, suspecting the gear shaft seal, I whipped the cover off and noticed this small piece of ally, similar in size to a small watch battery. Everthing else seemed good so I suspect the oil may have come from behind this plug? Ive popped it back in now anyway.anyone had similar before?

Those plugs are still available from Yamaha. Be careful not to bang them in too far, as they will nip on the end of the selector rods. You can fit them with sealant if you want.

Thanks Gary..I did put a smear of sealant on the edges and over it..good to know I can still order them if needs be. Strange one eh?

It is a strange one. They don't have to be removed to do any job on the engine. But they can be removed in error.

I had the same thing, ended up replacing the shift shaft thinking it was that, sigh... I wrote about it in my 421 build.

I can see why..think I was lucky mate...if this plug hadnt have just sat there , stuck on the side casing in its chain lube/oil mix, i would never have been any wiser to it missing and probably would have ended up replacing all the wrong things too..

Yeah I never even thought to look at the plug and was totally gutted when the bike leaked after swapping the shiftshaft, until I saw the obvious issue afterwards LOL
