just stripped my head bearings due to a advisory on being slightly notchy on last mot, is it possible that dirt would be causing this problem has have cleaned them and cant see any damage on bearings or the cones, will be putting them back in after a few other jobs are done whats your thoughts.

Change them while you have it stripped. Not expensive then just fit and forget

Easy to check with only yokes fitted.
Over tight bearings will feel notchy
