Thermo's purpose is (beyond getting up to temps quickly) to stabilise temps. It tries to preclude that 'big rush' of cooling water. Years ago Yama steadfastly maintained that 85 C was Overheat on our TZ350's. An immediate top end strip was mandated. What's changed?

Mine (YPVS in LC chassis) has the opposite problem, fine until I rag it! The 50 degree stat didn't make a lot of difference, the gutted one dropped it down to 75 and the impeller took another 5 off. In this case I think a bigger rad is in order!
Yep totally agree Bare, the only thing that's changed is the fuel content, even the full on race fuels are not as potent as they used to be, Avgas helps but has died out to a certain extent in this country, if you are on pump fuel, which a lot of regs stipulate these days then i think th ebike needs to run slightly hotter to burn the fuel properly
Out of interest what oil did you run in the TZ's back in the day A747?

What is really important in cooling water temperature is the differance between incoming temperature and out going temperature. optimal differance being between 5 and 7 degrees.
