I think that is where the indicator self cancelling unit goes.its an oblong rubber box with a loop on it and wires out the one end .hope this helps you.

Thanks for that. That's why I didn't remember removing anything from it, as this is a Swedish import bike which I don't believe had the self cancelling indicators.
I have seen these units on ebay, if I buy one does it simply plug into somewhere on the loom and work like magic, or is it a bit more complicated than that?
For some reason the 250LC parts catalogue I have doesn't show a self cancelling unit.

You have to fit the self cancelling unit and change one wire on the flasher unit. If you look at the wiring diagram you will see it. There is always a spare wire left over at the flasher unit, and that is swapped with a different wire to include or exclude the self cancelling unit.

Hi Shaun , I know you are way past this stage by now.
But it reminded me off something. You want to make sure you clean some of the coating off just around the bolts where the coil sits , if you look at the coil the metal core comes out each end and this has to have a very good earth contact on the frame. it may get enough contact just through the bolts . But always good to cover all bases , just put some wd or light grease around the area after you have fitted it.
