Holy hell id forgotten just how much work it was to polish the rims! 1st day down and only the first half rim done with course wet and dry.......big blister on thumb (must be getting soft!) However I prefer doing it the long way as to me it gets a better result.
Just thought id share my pain.....lol.

little tip for you, for doing the spoke ribs, get an old 9v (small rectangular battery), wrap the wet n dry paper round it and then use that to do the edge of the spokes, its a lot easier and saves your thumb/finger !
Also, I use scotch brite discs that go onto my dremel/drill and bring them up a treat and load quicker than by hand, it certainly helps to getn the thick of it off anyway

Make sure its a Duracell as they last longer and you should get 2 wheels out of it!

Scotchbrite discs / cones are a good shout as they save loads of time as Dave mentioned.

Well done. There is a lot of time consuming work on the wheels, but good for another twenty years now if you look after them.

I have a pair of RGV wheel to polish and paint, should I get them acid dipped, powered coat centres the polish? Or acid dip, then polish followed by powder coat with heat proof making tape?

Maybe not helpful Andy but... I painted mine, after I had polished the rims.

Vapour blasting gives a good finish I believe, then just keep them clean with autosol or similar
I will stand corrected but I don't think you can paint after the vapour blast
Or possibly powder coat

I personally arnt a fan of powder coat on wheels, I've seen some warp but mostly with polishing I don't like the edge finish and the fact it's more permanent if they chip its a whole new job. I would vapour blast or acid dip then polish mask then paint then a re polish.
Cheers Mike

Nice front wavy discs ,they look properly riveted , mind if I ask where they are from ?. , been looking for some for a while , ref cost did you have to sell many body parts . Rims look good , mine took me 3 weekends ,worked up to 800 grit then used an electric polisher

Nice R1! I dont think ive ever kept a bike that long! With the exception of a really bent Cr250 ive had since a kid keep meaning to do something with its engine as its just sat under a cover in my dads garage where its been for 25+ years.....lol.
SteveP im building another 4L1 hybrid, Chassis is now done ish (well is rolling!) Engine next then wiring, brakes etc......its a long Journey and im still not convinced its as good as the last one!
Cheers, Mike
