Could hope with the Bimotas (I have a Dieci), but will take a long time for them to get up to their new price let alone be an investment. Plus point is that a lot of the parts are fairly easily reproduced, although some of the parts are from other bikes but no longer easily found (eg, Dieci mirrors are used on the older 900SS and the like and are not easily available, rear indicators I haven't seen any for ages).
Not sure what newer normal bikes will land up being classics. Probably some early noughties scooters, RS125, Mito, etc. Larger bikes almost certainly the Hayabusa, early R1, Triumph 675 Daytona and a few others.
But too many current bikes are too ugly (go to the NEC bike show in 2000 and the 'busa was pretty much the ugliest bike, last year it was one of the best looking bikes).

It is funny though how some bikes just don't seem to rise in value as much as others and I am thinking the Z650, GS750, GS1000, these have never held such high values as the Z1 models or the triple models yet are all capable bikes.

Yamaha trx 850, strange but i think its going to pop up at a silly price within the next 10 years. Yamaha did nothing else like it, and its loved now and has a great following. Im after a mint example by the way !

I think this kind of bike should be cheep enought for a lot of people to buy one and it should be good enought to challenge the expensive competition. That makes some kind of a legend.. Expensive MVs will always be high value as they do start as a good high value bike.
Problem is that modern cheap bikes are Chinese made crap!

This is gonna sound crazy.. Yama BWS 50cc Scooter ! No Not as a money making 'investment'.. As if! But a genuinely Fun, thrilling even thing to ride.. memorably so. And it's the memory of using it that will be timeless Mine (younger Son's actually) but he doesn't ride it much. Fully modded (surreptitiously ) to 80 cc etc. Given the choice I often use it (gasp!) rather than My LC /valvie or 600RR... parked beside it. No fuss..Just hop on and go. It's a stealth machine.. it looks goofy harmless... but accelerates Very well:-) Up to it's 80kmh top speed (Gearing) Lifting the wheel at virtually any speed simply by throttle use. Perfect for urban uses. Thrills at quasi legal speeds. Who woulda thought? Handles quite well too and the brakes are actually good. Wasn't the silly hooligan antics a large part of what made LC's memorable as our Doddering memories resurfaced in later life?

FS1Es are going for £4000, 50+ year olds now ride these bikes, they were designed for 16 year olds. If someone said (when I was 16) that these bikes are future classics and fetch mental money, I would of thought they were crackers!!!! I couldn't wait to ditch mine.....and get an RD250!!!!!

Looking at the current production bikes, which one do you think will be a classic bike 30 years from now? Is there going to be one that will stand out like the 4L0? I really don't think so... Kostas Kostas, I would think this possibly be more a question answered by the age and disposition of the current people purchasing bikes/skootaz. Back in "our day" I for one remember the usual 16 year old spotty faced kids eager to line up for a ton-up LC prior to even getting a sniff of a car license at 17. Personally I believe there will never again be a time/situation like the early 80's with regards the LC's. I would like to be proven wrong but for the LC's to have the obsessive cult following they currently enjoy 30+ years on is really something special. CJ

Z650,gs750/1000 are all starting to get seriously collectable due to the original big zeds prices going through the roof,as for anything that's made now that's a future classic, couldn't say other than anything Italian is possible, spent an afternoon at fowlers in Bristol with my two young sons, everything same as everything else, ended up in the historic section with a few others talking about the lc,the rgv and the Suzuki gt they had on display, I must be getting toooo old I sound like my dad going on about how everything was better in the olden days ( which has turned it to be true)

Went to the bike show on Saturday and nothing stuck out I specifically went to look at the new Monster and was disappointed it had none of the character of the old bikes it just looked like a baby Diablo, when we were 16 you couldn't wait to get the freedom to get out with your mates on your bike, no one does that now as you can't get a Fizzy for 50 quid and a16 year old now is better at Grand theft auto than decoking a 2stroke, the only good bit about the show was the classic bike stand, also 16 quid to get in I remember buying a bike for less than that in the seventies

R6 - Thrashed around by idiots, lots been raced or turned into track day bikes. Completely forgotten by most because the R1 is bigger. Most peoples 1st big bike these days. Standard pipes swapped for race cans, silly LED lights added, stickers all over them. Sound familiar? If I ever come across a mint standard one it will be going in the back of the garage for a while

Had some time to think over this with a brew and have to say i think the ducati 916 is a timeless classic 20 years on and still looks fantastic and there's enough around to able to restore to original condition if wanted .

Having had both a Triumph 675 (daytona?) and the 675 speed-triple out, they are one of the few modern bikes that remind me of the LC thrill. The motor is magnificent. Induction roar, light weight and pipe noise make for brilliant fun. J

I'd say the triumph 675 Daytona, and not just because I have one , its one of them 'Bucket List' bikes, you just got to ride. just like the lc's were/are really. I honestly don't get the hype for FSIE's come small 'cc' stuff, Yes Nostalgia but too slow to put that grin on your face, for me, And its not just about speed , or we'd all go for a zzr 14 ,busa type thing, Its got to make you feel like,- You look out of the window in the morning and its dry , bit of sun showing and shout 'YES' see you later love , im off !!!!

beatiful senna there! I just sold my F4 Evo3 recently to persue my 2 stroke addiction, dont half miss seing it in the garage (note I dont miss riding it, as I barely ever took it out too many hobbies too little time )
