Looking at the current production bikes, which one do you think will be a classic bike 30 years from now? Is there going to be one that will stand out like the 4L0?
I really don't think so...

If you mean collectable with some character thrown in, i'd say any 2 stroke ever made will be at some stage.
That possibly could be stretched to the mid 90's of the TZR/NSR/RGV.
4 strokes up to mid eighties are collectable too, but don't do it for me.
After that, nothing has any glimmer of character at all.

The best bikes are made in boom times when people have cash to spare on stuff out of the showroom. In these times of austerity new bikes coming out of the shops & seen on the road are mostly relatively cheap & unexciting. Can't see much made now being icons of a classic era like our bikes are. Prepared to be shown error of opinion tho.

It will be the early Fireblades in my opinion.. Changed the face of sports bikes somewhat so has some historical and performance relevance. To some degree the novice enthusiast (like me!) would stand a half chance of rebuilding one and keeping them on the road. Possibly!

Has to be something not as mainstream.... Bimota's or possibly MV 's..... ,!,!, although I do agree the Blade changed the rule book....although maybe someone like Triumph is getting closer to producing something more soulful.... But let's not forget... No two strokes now , so maybe there will be nothing to ever compare... Also maybe it's just my age but, the kids of today don't have the same bike culture that was about in the 80's.....

8-)It was a lot better in the eighties and screaming round the streets on noisy 2 strokes was brilliant,,,,now with all the speed cameras and big brother watching every move,I doubt riding bikes will ever be as much pleasure again, therefore the young bikers today will never be as nostalgic about there old bikes as us,having said that I did have a lot of fun on my KTM625 supermoto, maybe one to collect in the future???

I would say the Aprilia AF1 125 range of bikes and then the Aprilia RS125 again the early bikes 1994-1996. Early Cagiva Mito' etc.
These bikes were / are used buy the youth of yesterday / today that have not passed there test, my bet is when they get 30 something they will want one again.

The bikes that have become collectible have tended to be big sellers.FS1E s LCs, etc, I like 90 per cent of all bikes but never got the Peugot Speedfight scooters but there were swarms of them at one point, that would be my tip. Please dont ban me for the s word

Just think about the bikes that had an impact on launch, first R1 (already is), GSXR1000, R1 crossplane crank, would guess at most Ducati sports (Diavel?) CBR600s? Either weird or extremely popular. Rare stuff like MV's, Bimotas, Benelli? I feel are a little different, as most of us can't afford them, then or now.

That couldnt be wider off the mark on that one I think Hampo The LC was launched when un-employment was through the roof and the first generation fireBlade hit the market during the even deeper recession of the early 90's. "Looking at the CURRENT production bikes, maybe the Pannigale R , the Aprillia RSV...both desirable and cutting edge with racing pedigree..its not that easy eh

Can't comment on current production bikes that might become collectible / cult bikes in 30 years time, that would come anywhere close to the LC and other iconic bikes from the past. I'm convinced that the 1994 Ducati 916 Strada will become very, very valuable in the very, very near future (only because I have one), same with the BSA C15. Ok only joking about the BSA (have one of those as well as other non iconic bikes). I do think the original Suzuki Bandit 600 will become the 1990s boys LC in the future, as they launched loads of my younger mates into biking and in a few years time these guys will be looking back with their rose tinted specs on - watch the prices rise (maybe I need to buy one of them as well). I do agree with other comments on early FireBlades and the 4XV R1s. Must admit I still like most bikes from the LCs, to classics, trials, customs and everything in between, but the LC is where the heart lies. Long live the LC.
