Anyone got any good ideas on the neatest way to recess a 4lo tailight, i hate botch jobs & wondered if anyone had any pics on how they have done it

this was they way I found my tail light done, maybe I wouldn't do it this way if it was me, as it seems crass to cut up good plastic, but if you have a spare tatty one maybe useful information.

I've done it few times before.
The easiest way is not to touch where the rear light bolts to the plastic tray. Just unbolt the tray, pull it forward until the rear light is where you want it, then make new holes through the tray to bolt in the new (further forward) position. You can easily do any trimming to the tray (front and sides) as needed.

I did this back in the day. I didn't want the rear mudguard either but didn't want to chop it. All I did was Strip out the tray and mudguard then with fibreglass and mesh made a flat platform and then held the light unit in place with a couple of strips of metal, bent, drilled and bolted to the sub frame. It was cheap,strong and everything could be put back if needed.

Easy to make your own.make a cardboard pattern,transfer to a piece of alloy,cut ,drill and fold,job done.simple!!!

I agrea bazzer, Ive asked Nigel to trace round it and do a bit of measuring, it would be great if he could do that. Its simpler for me to make one than have one sent really :/

If anyone has a template would they mind sharing, I would like to make one of these myself to loose the cut down plastic try in there at the moment, it looks a bit cack.

I have this morning been in contact with a local engineering firm who are going to give me a price to have a small batch of these brackets made. They will be similar to the photo above but will also include a number plate mounting bracket. Will update later with price.
