Cheers Guys All going well now, got an mot and rides real nice. Looking to get someone to check carbs setup as I'm not convinced it's right. Any one know someone local to Herts ?
Also, been trying to find a speedo cable, RGV bottom end into LC clocks ... I'm guessing this has been done before but I don't seem to have a search option on this stupid app.
Suggestions welcome
Cheers Jimbo

Found the answer on this brilliant build thread www.2smoked.com/Yamaha_RD350_LC_421cc_Athena_Frame.htmlquote " ... you need the Suzuki version as the axle end is too small for the RD cable, and the Suzi one fits the RD clock properly. And, its said that you need the OEM one as the aftermarket units are slightly shorter... "

Glad to have been of assistance Jimbo, loving yer bike mate! Nice one - Got the cable pretty quick, but the speedo drive is buggered (Wheel End) I think they did some with plastic or Nylon thread, my seems to have been chewed off flush ... Not found one cheaper than £80 yet, but steep for what it is. RGV250M Speedo Drive anyone - suggestions welcome ?

Decided to update a few aging parts in an attempt to get it running better, the old coil looked pretty battered and looked like it had been repaired on the LT side of things, so binned that and got a Dyna Coil
All a bit of a learning curve eh ... these are too big for the standard brackets, so thats had to go back.
So went for Norbo's Banshee Coils and brackets ... Nice one.
For the people's benefit I asked this afternoon, and thank you for confirming this Norbo.
The Orange Wire is split in two and feeds both the Coils, the black wire is Earth
Used the standard block connector and some new ends:

And with the Coils fitted and in place

Still not running anywhere near right, the coils, make starting easier, but now it runs for a min or so, then cuts out dead, like someone has switched the ignition off. Leave it a min, and it starts up and runs fine again – but repeats the same symptoms. I am convinced this is not fuel, as there is lots of fuel in the filters and cracking the float bowl, fuel in there too. The way it cuts out too, is too instant to be fuel, could – any suggestions of where to look next welcome

sounds electrical, something is getting hot and breaking down by the sounds of it, I am assuming it just dies immediately, no spluttering, or slowly dying down on the revs,, just running and then nothing ?
BTW - nice looking bike

Does it irrespective of revs and or choke
It does seem electrics to me as there is no spluttering, just cuts out straight away
Anywhere I could send my CDI box off for testing ?
Lugs look fine by the way - and yes they are brand new ones

I agree with Muttsnuts, sounds electrical. Best guess generator exciter coils or pick up coil. Both can be checked with a meter. Next time it cuts out, quickly earth a plug to check it's ignition
