HI, as most will be aware the F1 as the rear shock with the preload adjustable via toothed belt & pulley. As F1 shocks are no longer available NOS I wondered if anyone as converted a different aftermarket shock to accept the original preload adjust system via the toothed belt & pulley ? I'm sure this is possible for the right engineers !!!!!

I use an F2 shock on my LC2 which originally had the same shock as the F1. I think Norbo still sells the F2 ones in his shop. It's a bit fiddly to adjust the preload with a "C" spanner but possible and seams to work ok.

I looked at this when I thought I needed a new shock on a rebuild but turns out it was good so I refurbed.
The F2 shock body is actually the same apart from where there is a circlip on top to hold the adjuster on. Biggest issue is the plate that the spring collets fit onto at the bottom, it is bigger than the adjuster body so won't let it past to swap with the 31k adjuster so would need the bottom eye removed (good luck) or the plate cut off and another one made and welded on.
Sure it could e done but whether it is worth all the hassle is another thing

As above, any model YPVS shock will be a direct swap and there are several alternatives to the original shock. Fazer, R6 etc need a few mods but are worth doing. I also can't see the point of trying to keep the belt adjuster thingy.

Is the R6 shock from any particular year or model? 99-01 You can tell as it's eyes at each end rather than an eye at the top and a fork at the bottom if that makes sense

It's pretty easy, dog bones stay the same and you have to cut a small notch in the frame for the top adjuster to fit har a look at my n1 thread in the restorations/projects sections to get a better understanding. Then you need to drill the top mounting hole to fit your existing bolt, and fit 5mm spacers at each side of the shock at the top. For the bottom you take the roller bearing out of the r6 shock and then press in some phosphor bronze bushes that you can buy off the shelf for a couple of quid from simply bearings.
It's about a cm longer eye to eye so will give a slight increase in ride height too which is nice.
A few people have said that the r6 shock improves handling no end and has loads of adjustment built in, also I've heard dropping the forks a cm makes a good improvement too..
I only paid 30 for my shock in top condition.

Yeh there's plenty about so don't rush in to a minging one Good luck with the conversion mate, oh you might need to cut a small bit out of your chain guard too to clear the shock reservoir but I'm not that far in yet! I've got some spacers for the top if you want me to post you some.
