this is the listing i placed on ebay, this stator plate had been kicking around my garage for over 2 years, i'm selling all my lc parts and bikes as i have ms and can no longer ride or work on my bikes.
so this stator went on ebay, i decided not to list it as needing refurbing as i had not tested it, and there for did not know weather or not it was faulty, it was listed as a punt, you pay your money you take a chance, i was expecting someone to chuck a tenner at it for refurb but with a good chance it was working as it had come off a siezed bottom end i bought for the cases, if someone had payed a tenner for it and told me it was working i would have said fair play to ya mate i'm glad you've had some good fortune.
when this all kicked off i showed a couple of my biker mates the listing to see what they made of it, both of them said they might have chucked a tenner at it as a punt.
both of my mates could not believe someone would pay £37 for an untested stator
The buyer opened a case: Item doesn't match the description 13 Feb, 2014 at 20:02
The case details:
The buyer says the item doesn't match the description.
The buyer paid on 07 Feb, 2014.
The buyer didn't give permission to share a phone number with you.
The item is defective or broken
Additional information:
"Hi, got the stator plate today, however, I've checked the windings and the low side windings are out of tolerance (228 ohms instead of 271 +/- 10%) by a long way which means they will not work correctly. This is rather unfortunate as the other components are fine, but needless to say this item is not suitable Please advise on how you wish to proceed Regards Dave"
this is the first message i got from mutsnuts, a case against me without speaking to me first, i thought this guy has bid on this and thought if it doesn't work im just going to send it back, and disreguarded the fact it was untested, hence bidding a whooping £37.
this is my first message
"hi sorry your not happy with the stator plate, it came to me on a seized engine as stated, i also stated that theres a good chance its sound, i never stated it was working, if i had tested it and found it to be working the auction starting price would have been £45, i never tested it so i started the auction at £10 which was a fair price for one that needs rewinding if it was found to be faulty, so how did the item not match the description, whilst watching your auction fever i thought to myself this chap likes a gamble, if you had got it for £10 would you still be asking for a refund "
he then wrote
his second message to me
"umm, so what I take from that is that you knew it was faulty as otherwise you would have started it at a higher price. You clearly know how to test them and since its such a quick job I fail to see how you wouldn't do such a test if you reckon a good working item is worth so much more. In respect of gambling, I don't gamble, I bid for an item that was portrayed as "a good chance it was sound", which suggested you didn't know how to test them, which is clearly not the case from your well articulated response and knowledge of such things. Rather disappointing to say the least"
this message really got my goat
so the buyer was happy to bid on an item he thought was untested, but because hes found it to be faulty and i have some knoledge of lc's hes assummed i have tested it and listed it anyway and basically called me a scammer
this is what i then wrote
my second message
"if i had tested the stator and found it to be faulty i would have stated it in the listing.the only way i could have tested it, would have been to fit it to my running rd which would have taken hours, and quite frankly a task i'm not fit enough to do anymore as i have MS, i do not own or know how to use a test meter. so being articulate enables me to test electrical components does it ?? i asked you why you thought it didn't match the description, YOU SAID, you thought you were bidding on an untested stator plate, well thats exactly what you bought, an untested stator. you have called me a liar and questioned my integrity as an honest seller. your points are all assumptions that are incorrect, my points are all FACT, you also asked for a refund before you assumed i'd tested it, FACT the part was used and untested, you seem to read things and twist them round to suit yourself, like ebays description of a used item you say your not a gambler why bid on a chance that something might work"
in the last 2 years i have sold many lc parts on ebay and on the forum, and recieved the best feedback, i dont sell rubbish, that goes in the scrap bin, i am one of the most fairminded people you are ever likely to meet i treat people like i expect to be treated myself.
would i take pity on a buyer thats bid way over the odds for a part in a "suck and see" auction that proves to be faulty, yes, alot quicker if he hadn't set the ebay dogs on to me with his first message, and not disreguarded the nature of a take a chance auction.
