Was delivered today by Spirit couriers, can highly recommend them, very efficient and would have cost me more to hire a van and fuel! Bike is a German matching numbers totally original in very nice condition, white with red decals, 20k miles (equivalent, have miles speedo to fit) Hoping to get registered and on road in April (weather permitting) has been mot'd in UK so hopefully will just need to send off forms to DVLA to get it sorted. Will get sme pics up when get some taken.

Welcome, join the club. Your story is familiar to a few of us on here! I've just gone through the process of registering a 250 from Switzerland, and whilst lots of red tape, I got there in the end and just received V5 this week indicating I have been awarded an age related plate! Good luck with yours. Shaun

Thanks guy's Am a maintenance electrician so not really into bike electrics but hopefully be ok?? Went to start it on Friday and found battery totally dead (2.5v) down on electrolite as well so topped up and left on charge, today had 12v ok but was kicking over for about 5 mins and obvious it wasnt interested! Plugs out, looked wet so getting petrol. Put plugs in caps and kicked over, getting spark. Finger in plug holes and felt ok, dug out compression tested and had 100psi on both pots (dont know if right but enough to run) As i live at bottom of small bank decided to push her up and try bumping off (remember pushing my 350 back home about 5 miles when i was 17, was shattered just pushing her up the bank lol) Droned to the driveway and gave the slightest hint it was trying to fire so kept trying and eventually she spluttered into life! Looed like the left pot was flooded as loads of petrol out that side but seamed to run ok, no obvious leaks, could the float be jammed on that carb? Happy to get her running, once warmed up she ran fine, is very quiet on standard pipes and baffles. Spend rest of day going over her with cleaning cloths, overall very happy with condition and originality. Took some close up pics but camera battery died and can i find the charger?! Will copy some pics over when find it (wasnt in kitchen draw normally kept, at least the drawer is tidy now lol.

Nice one Pete. Couple of things you might not be aware of though: The bike uses a CDI ignition which is independent of the battery and is powered direct from coils in the alternator stator. The bike will start and run fine with a flat battery or even no battery at all. So I doubt that was the reason for it not starting. You do need a battery though to keep the electrics working smoothly. 100 psi compression is ok for a standard bike but is getting a bit low. I wouldn't worry too much though as long as it starts and goes ok. It does sound like the left side float was sticking and that would have made it hard to start due to being flooded. It might pay to give the carbs a going over and maybe the fuel tap too. Sometimes they can pass fuel even when off and make it flood after a few days. I had a 250lc that did the same and was an absolute pig to start. It would often shoot unburnt fuel out of both pipes when it eventually started! Hope this helps and have fun

Forgot to mention, i fitted the mph speedo, bought on E-Bay before got bike delivered as knew it had a kmh one and i wanted a mph one, doesnt match so must be off another Yamaha maybe aircooled RD? Will do until i find a proper LC mph one.
Will probably take the rear extender mudguard off as it does look a bit naff, couldnt remember what standard UK bikes were like, know loads were cut down back in the day.
Also not sure whether to re-paint barrels and stand as although not perfect they are totally original and like they say they can only be original the once!

Hi Pete, Welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a nice Lc there. A cheaper option for a speedo is buying replacement gauge faces. Norbo sells them or you can get them on ebay cheaply enough. Genuine MPH speedos are getting very expensive now, and a clock face change is quite straightforward, plus you get a new looking tacho at the same time.
